Hi,
Just wanted to caution you about Greenland Rolling Courses. Apparently, there are 35 different types of Greenland Rolls. Some are Back Breaking, some are done without Paddles, some need to be done in Greenland Kayaks and not in our stand type of kayaks i.e Nimbus, some are suited for rougher water and some Greenland Rolls would not be suited to be done in rough water.
Just ask questions of what is being taught in the Greenland Rolling Course you select and make sure that it works for what you need.

Hi Everyone,

We are looking for a double kayak to borrow or rent for a trip from August 14th to 20th. We live in Vancouver but will very happily pick up from anywhere. Will pay with money, beer, or returned favours!

We are experienced kayakers taking a friend and her daughter to the Broken Group. Our ideal boat would be either a shorter 18 footer or a bigger boat with a central hatch.

My earlier reply does not appear to have been posted so I’ll try again.

1. We learned that the fee is ‘voluntary’, whatever that means… (I doubt they will issues tax receipts for ‘donations’ made.)

2. You should refer to the BCMT map but some of the camping sites on that map are no longer ‘approved’ by the Ahousaht, but I don’t know what they wil say or do if they find you camping at one of those sites.

3. I’d suggest Nuchatlitz or Nootka Sd instead of Clayoquot. (Long approach paddle for the former.)

Hi Everyone:

Is anyone interested/able to carpool? I am coming from Vancouver and was thinking of leaving Friday morning/return Monday midday and parking at Horseshoe Bay but….

I was checking for parking reservations at Horseshoe Bay and it looks as though there is no space to reserve so may have to drive on the ferry? Or maybe there is always space for unreserved cars?

Alternately there still seems to be space on the ferries to reserve for cars and might be a similar cost?

I don’t think I’ll have the option for someone to drop me off/pick me up.

I spoke with Coastal Fire Centre today. no list of approved camp stoves but was told to go on the assumption that if it was sold in Canada, it should be ULC/CSA approved. Their big concern is sparks. No alcohol stoves, e.g.Trangia

That is a really good price for an ExPed. I hope you will be able to trade for the one you want.

I have an ExPed Downmat Lite 5M, which is full-width. I suspect it is the one you were probably looking for. It has served me well now for 3 (very full) seasons kayaking and backpacking. I’ll keep an eye out for another one for you. I’ve seen a few go by on EBay. They’re not easy to come by and typically get posted for reasons similar to yours.

For the curious, I have not had any delamination issues. I have been careful to keep my mat out of hot cars and tents. The face fabric is a reasonable balance between tough and light. Make sure you don’t have a knife or spork in your pockets when going to bed.

Last year I did not camp at all. The year prior, I inadvertently brought home an exped mummy pad instead of my own rectangular one.

I do not like the mummy and would like to sell it and replace with a full mattress.

It’s in good condition but I don’t know anything else.
