Trip Leader Course

When: August 20, 2021 until August 22, 2021

Location: Howe  Sound  Areaon the beach

Spend three days in the Howe Sound area developing the skills required to lead a SKABC trip for a day, a weekend or an extended period.

This course is aimed at paddlers who have some kayaking experience (day trips, overnight trips and multi-day trips), and would like to know more about leading SKABC trips in accordance with the club’s philosophy, which can be found on the website and is included at the bottom of this post.

Following completion of the course, when participants feel ready and if they so choose, we will endeavour to pair them with an experienced Trip Leader for mentorship and guidance.

Learning objectives of this course:

  • trip preparation
  • equipment to carry as the leader
  • launch site safety review
  • incident management
  • group integration to establish a cohesive team (group dynamics)
  • campsite environmental management

NOTE:  A mandatory pre-course meeting will be held to discuss logistics and review materials provided to each participant, on the evening of August 16, 2021, location to be confirmed.

Prerequisites:

  • Be able to perform a wet exit, assisted re-entry and unassisted (self) re-entry
  • Have overnight or multi-day trip experience
  • Know how to pack your kayak for camping
  • Be comfortable paddling a loaded boat
  • Be able to set up your own camp site at the end of the day
  • Interested in leading SKABC trips

Fee: $50                                    Limit: 6 participants

Refund policy:
> Cancellation within 30 calendar days or more = half the course fee refund,
> Cancellation within 29 calendar days or less = no refund.
