Course Schedule

See below for the list of SKABC courses, practice sessions and workshops offered in 2024.   Thank you to all of the instructors, assistants, and leaders. We could not offer these opportunities without you.  While most events were full, a few had to be cancelled. We hope to be able to offer the full lineup again in 2025.  Members interested in assisting the training officer or participating as an assistant or leader in 2025 are encouraged to contact the training officer.

•  March 30 - Knots & Tarps - CANCELLED
• April 20-21 - Navigation - 2 full days on Galiano Island with option to add a 2nd night camping April 19th.
• May 11- 12 - Weather - 2 full days on Galiano Island with option to add a 2nd night camping May 10. Note: this is Mother's Day weekend.
• May 18-20 - Beginners - 3 days on the May long weekend held on local lake and ocean locations. CANCELLED.
• May 25-26 - Boat Handling and Rescues - 2 days at a local location.
• May 31- Jun 2 - Remote 1st Aid with Coast Wilderness Medical Training.  Course begins Friday evening followed by 2 days at UBC Endowment Lands.
• June 4-5 - Safe Surf Launching and Landing with SKILS in Ucluelet area.  Must arrive Jun 3 for this mid week 2 full day course.
• June 15-16 - Safe Surf Launching and Landing with SKILS in Ucluelet area.  Must arrive Jun 14 for this 2 full day course.
• July 19-21 - Currents - 3 day course on Mayne Island. 

Practice sessions & workshops: 

• Trip Planning and Decision Making workshop - April 24 and May 1 - 6pm-9 pm in North Vancouver  
• VHF Review Workshop - Thursday May 16 (5:45-8:45) pm in Downtown Vancouver.
• Strokes tune-up/practice session  - Sunday June 2nd (9 am - noon) in West Vancouver.  CANCELLED.
• Introduction to paddling with a Greenland Paddle - Wed evening June 5 (5:30-8:30 pm) in Kitslano. CANCELLED
• Rescue and rolling practices on North Shore on June 9, July 14 (cancelled), August 11. (9 am  - noon)

Additional courses, clinics, workshops and practice sessions:

• SKABC has 3 additional courses to offer. They are: KayakBS Camping Best Practices, Trip Leader Course, Instructor Course.  Please email the Training Officer if you are interested in any of these courses in 2024 or 2025.
• Clinics, workshops, practice sessions, and other topics of interest may be offered if there is interest.  Suggestions  may be sent to the Training Officer.
