Thanks for letting us know about this Nancy — it was playing in South Surrey this week so I went and saw it — so inspiring! :-)Susan
Andrew MyllyHi there! Wondering what’s happening with the VHF radio licence course? Thanks!
Kallie CunninghamThe SKABC Beginners course is now open for registration.
Navigation, Weather, and Boathandling have met minimum numbers. But spaces are going. Don’t delay if you want to take these courses.
We still need at least 4 people to sign up for Remote First Aid by April 15th or the course may be cancelled.
The Safe Surf Launching and Landing courses with SKILS are full, but if waitlisting is available.
Information on the Currents course is posted, but registration is not yet open. Details for the workshops will come soon.
Nick HeathThis trip starts in just 4 days and was full, but now we have one space remaining because of a cancellation.
Pl. Call Nick if you are interested.
Quirine SchuyffWe have one space left for anyone interested in doing some paddling to/from/around Gambier and having the use of a cabin in the eves.
Please see details on the SKABC calendar. The deadline for registration is March 22.
Devi DesabhatlaHi
I have had some experience with the kayaksailor. Its more like a small sailboat sail with a small jib option.
Points well into the wind. I have used with an inflatable outrigger float on my narrow Current Designs Solstice GTS

I don’t have a video but one person did post on YouTube … he went up Jervis Inlet from Nelson Island.
Cheers
Kallie CunninghamDetails for SKABC’s core courses are now posted. See the Training/Course Schedule page. While there is time to register for many courses, deadlines are looming for 3:
– Knots and Tarps: will be cancelled if we do not have 8 participants by noon Friday Mar 15.
– Navigation course (a great course at an amazing location on Galiano Island April 20& 21 (with option to arrive Friday April 19): 2 more participants required by 8 am Thursday Mar 21st to meet minimum numbers. Don’t miss this chance to learn from Rick and some of our best!
– Safe Surf Launching and Landing (Jun 15-16): There is time, but we require 4 members to commit before Apr 15, or this offereing will be cancelled.
Cynthia KennedyHi all, the next cross club meeting has been scheduled for April 2nd from 7:00-8:30pm.
Here is the Zoom link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82798769050?pwd=JLUMGtbbFJ8NkEbcrRU6pjFImVHwmW.1
Join us April 2nd on Zoom for an evening of paddle talk with BC Marine Trails! Learn about the latest sites on the BCMT map, volunteer opportunities for the summer, and the latest news from First Nations
Including a special presentation by Nathan Slater of A Little Paddle.
From April 16th to September 1st, 2023, Nathan Slater and Sanesh Iyer paddled a pair of sea kayaks from Victoria BC to Yakutat Alaska, covering a distance of 1935 nautical miles (3500km). Their journey led them through remote communities, abandoned industrial towns, natural hot springs, and to the base of North America’s largest tidewater glacier.
During the presentation, Nathan will cover highlights (and some lowlights) from the expedition as well as tips and tricks for planning your own sea kayak expedition. Check out their trip blogs for a sneak peek at some of the stories that may be told!

Nick HeathPosition filled!
Nick HeathI’ve been invited to visit Simson Park on S Thormanby I on Friday by the Senior Park Ranger, Elyse Guzek. Using the BC Parks boat, there is room for an additional person.
If another member would like to come and is willing to ride with me, please contact me asap.
I’m booked on the 07:30 ferry, so must be at Horseshoe Bay by 06:55.
The Park Ranger wants to look at the work we did last month, cutting invasive plants, and give us guidance for our next effort that comes up soon.
I don’t know how much actual work we are likely to do on Friday – short visit.

March 11, 2024 at 6:41 pm in reply to: Knots & Tarps – Sat Mar 30 – register by noon Mar 15 to avoid cancellation #23647Bob MaherI took the Knots & Tarps course years ago and it is a great course. I have have been using it for Kayaking as well as many other areas around the house, rigging tarps for friends, using the Knots in many circumstances not related to Kayaking and emergency situations.
It would be a shame if the Knots & Tarps has to be cancelled as the skills learned can be used in many other areas and the skills will be used for a life time.

Kallie CunninghamUnfortuneately, we have no registrations to date for SKABC’s Knots & Tarps course on morning of Saturday March 30. We appreciate that it is on the Easter Weekend. However, if you missed it and are interested, we require 8 registered and paid participants by noon on Friday March 15 or the course will be cancelled. Please go to the website, sign in and register. If we do not meet the minimum number of 8 registration fees will be refunded.
Here is the description of this fun and informative 3 hr course as found on the member website:
- Do you have trouble remembering how to tie knots?
- Do you have trouble rigging up tarps that don’t sag in the wind or rain?
- This course teaches only 8 knots that you can use to secure kayaks and set-up tarps in camp.
- You will learn:
– how to use the 8 knots in any kayaking/camping environment to rig fully adjustable tarp systems and
– about rope composition, what type of rope to buy and where to buy rope. - Bob will also demonstrate his food cache system and everyone will have a chance to operate it!
Susan MurrayHi Stewart. How much does the Kevlar/carbon layup weigh? Happy to talk to you about this boat at susan.murray@telus.net. Sounds like just what I am looking for. Thx.
Stewart WhitfieldI will be sad to see the Legend go but I have one too many kayaks at the moment. Very fast, ideal for touring and long trips.
- Kevlar/Carbon
- Skeg
- 17ft 10inches in length
- 21 inch in beam
- 188 liters of storage space
Built in 2021, I purchased it from the original owner where it had seen very little use. I had Seaward add a Ritchie compass and a full length keel guard to protect the hull. The Nigel Foster seat is paired with an IRS adjustable back band giving excellent feel and good control. The Legend is designed by Nigel Foster and made by Seaward under license. Read more about the Legend on the Seaward site here:
https://www.seawardkayaks.com/products_fibre_legend.php
It is in excellent condition. Stored in the garage and washed after every use. Used mainly for paddling locally in Howe Sound and Deep Cove and for my Paddle Canada Level 3 course in the Broken Group.
Seaward provided me a replacement cost quote for insurance purposes and as new it would be over $8,000 after taxes.
Asking $4,000 CAD
