April 9/22 is our second ‘paddle and pull’ event to work on invasive ivy in Belcarra Regional Park. We need 2 more paddlers (or you could hike in) to make this trip worthwhile for the effort needed to put it on by the Metro Parks team. For example, they complete an avian check prior to choosing our work site. We will work in a defined area near Admiralty Point and our impact is visible and rewarding. Please let me know by Sunday eve if you can join us.

I’m going again to Gambier to work on some tiling and the wood stove installation. The weather forecast looks reasonable. I travel in my very small power boat to a member’s private cabin, that is available for SKABC member use. For safety reasons it is better for 2 to be on site.

Another job that can be done close to the cabin is to try to clean and prepare an existing unused water storage tank and connect plastic pipes so that it fills from the adjacent stream (permit already granted). This will provide a 1000 L water reserve for dry periods, which could be treated or boiled for drinking or used for fire control in an emergency.  Other tasks (there are many) could be to locate and buck downed timber for firewood, then stack it.

So I’m looking for a hardy person who could figure out and complete these tasks without much supervision.

I’ll launch at McDonald Ramp in Richmond. but could pick up a helper in W Van e.g. Sunset Marina or Caulfeild Cove or similar.  This will be a full day.

Tonight’s film night promises to be excellent — we’ll be showing five films that emphasize family, friendship and community, with just enough adrenaline mixed in.

No overnight camping – just skills, rescues & re-entries and knowledge topics for the Level 2 standards.

Paddle Canada 2, April 12-17. My girlfriend cannot make this trip and I’m looking for someone who can go with me! I have  room for one more kayak.  She will give a  substantial discount. My sincere thank you to everyone who replied to this query. This information has been super helpful for me and my friend planning our trip. In the end, we have decided to go with a guided tour as the south island is slightly out of our skill level. Very excited!!!!
