I guess there was too much heat for a campground at Cape Roger Curtis, so the metro park portion was/is to be sold off to a conservancy.
It wouldn’t have been useful [very difficult water access] for us anyway, but we should be wary of Apodaca camping status now.

Alexander Van HoutenA comfortable practical kayak with expedition potential. The chined hull and wide beam this craft is stable and forgiving. The smooth fiberglass makes it fast compared to a plastic boat of the same size.
Take on choppier waters and surprise rain showers with the neoprene spray skirt included with the purchase. The spray skirt seals tightly over the cockpit, keeping you warm and dry. Get maximum comfort and control over the craft with the adjustable pads and foot pads, extra pads included for smaller users.Storage is in three compartments sealed compartments. two large compartments, at the bow and stern and one small behind the cockpit perfectly placed for quick access items. More than enough storage to support camping for a few nights.
Extras included:
neoprene spray skirt size L, paddle float, hip pads, and rescue line with float.Optional:
The boat is stored in a prime location on Granville island, minutes away from English bay and false creek. The storage is transferable, no need to move the craft just take over the contract and enjoy easy access to the Vancouver waterfront. Secure storage is admistrated by Vancouver Water Adventures on Granville Island, Current rates are $50+GST month or $450+GST per year.Viewings will be conducted by appointment only on Granville Island.
Model
Fiberglass Hull Wilderness Systems Tsunami 145 Kayak
boat = 14.5′ long x 25″ wide at beam
cockpit = 33″ long x 17″ across
Estimated weight is 60 lbs.Known issue. The shockcord in the rigging has aged and needs to be replaced to regain full utility. An unfortunate side effect of the craft being stored outside. A side from that the boat is sound.
Am flexible on price

Nick HeathHere’s a brief update. I’m going to Simson tomorrow to accompany the Park Ranger to view the walking trails and the super work done earlier by SKABC and HBCA volunteers. There were offers of assistance for this and other adjacent days from a number of HBCA members but the forecast of very wet weather induced me to postpone this work. I’ll try to pick another time to finish the trail work.

Nick HeathTo continue trail clearing and marking jobs started recently at Simson Prov Park I plan to make 2 consecutive day visits some time in the week 15-18 Oct, immediately after Thanksgiving. I’d plan to take an early ferry, then paddle over to S Thormanby, work, then return to car camp at Porpoise Bay (Sechelt). Then I’d paddle back to S Thormanby the next day, and head for home after working. Working with saws etc. Short paddle each way. Possibly I could take my power boat instead, but probably not worthwhile.
Pl let me know if interested. Dates might be ‘fluid’ because of weather. Nick H treasurer2(at)skabc(dot)org

Nick HeathHey James,
Safety in any body of water requires good equipment, training, experience and judgement. You don’t give any indication of how you rate on any of these scales and you don’t appear to be a club member. If safety matters to you, (and it seems from your question that it does) please join a reputable paddling club and follow a safety-oriented training program and/or participate in well-led trips in which you may gain experience yourself with good paddlers to help you in case of need. I’m sorry if this sounds condescending. Many of us “just don’t know what we don’t know”!
Montague Channel in Howe Sd has gap winds – it is a funnel that accelerates wind speed. Winds here have enough ‘fetch’ (distance) to create large waves, which are steeper if the current is running in the opposite direction.
I don’t consider that part of Howe Sd to be particularly hazardous – there are many ‘worse’ places on our coast – but it is not to be taken lightly either.
Like in several similar mountain inlets, strong, cold air outflows are common in the morning (‘Squamish wind’) and strong warmer inflow winds from the ocean are common in the afternoon. These regular, maybe daily, thermal effects are in addition to any unusual storm or squall fronts that might hit the coast.
I think there is a good reason why such a relatively small area like Howe Sd has its own EC marine weather forecast.
