I guess there was too much heat for a campground at Cape Roger Curtis, so the metro park portion was/is to be sold off to a conservancy.

It wouldn’t have been useful [very difficult water access] for us anyway, but we should be wary of Apodaca camping status now.

Referring to the map below, it is interesting that the sold portion is the upland portion and not the 33 [maybe 32?] acre waterfront portion. And with the final wording from metro on the website referenced by Mark:

With the withdrawal of the rezoning application, the engagement process is now closed. Thank you to everyone who provided feedback. Details on the engagement process and what we heard is available in the engagement summary reports below.

. . . it may be closed, but there will still be 33 acres of waterfront property going to be just sitting there for . . . trails? As the now larger conservancy blocks off access to the metro portion – is that metro portion now just water access [ahem]?  . . . like another park not so far away?

and right at the most eastern corner of that remaining section is about the only potential for water access:

    water access

    anyway, just ponderings . . .

I think you are being too generous. This is Metro’s statement: (I added the emphasis)

Metro Vancouver had applied to Bowen Island Municipality for rezoning and a change to the Official Community Plan to allow for overnight tent camping. The rezoning application remains at first reading, and with the sale Metro Vancouver will withdraw its application.

That doesn’t seem to be the case. According to the MetroVancouver website, of the original 95hectares they purchased, 65hectares have been sold to the Bowen Island Conservancy. For the remaining 32hectares, MetroVan has applied for rezoning to allow overnight tenting. That’s how I interpret their posting.

Yes it is disappointing that the proposed campsite now seems to be a dead duck. That’s enough from me on this topic. I won’t say what I truly think because it will only get us embroiled in controversy once more, and that is no fun. All SKABC Forum discussions are open to the trolls of the (under)world!
