Hi all. As the weather kicks in this coming week, I am planning a nice paddle day from Deep Cove to Twin Islands (about 5-6 NM) .

It will be a relaxing paddle, we can do a rescue practice, test some new gear and enjoy the water.

If you wish to join me please give me a shout anytime before Saturday am

    My plan:

OTW- 10 am (high tide at 10:28 am)

    Bring ; Drysuit/wet suit, water, a snack .

    Recommended to bring wheels.

Ice cream at the cove for after party 🙂

Parking at the cove has changed and mainly pay, but there are some free unlimited areas.

See some of you on Saturday,

    Limor

Planning a trip in July. We have 3 nights and we are cutting some crossing time by going in/out from the Lodge.

Wifey and I are reasonably experienced paddlers and can handle up to 2C but we’ll have our pre-teen with one of us in a double.

Looking for any recommendations on what to do or NOT do. Seems challenging to have much float plan flexibility in planning with making reservations ahead of time…?

I have some extra items that I cannot keep due to lack of space. If someone has space and would like spares I’d be happy to get these to you.

    • spare Werner paddle (somewhat roughed up)
    • PFD
    • rope in a bag (heaving line?)
    • hard foam paddle float

Due to a scheduling conflict I won’t be going out for the tidal rip tomorrow (Sat.), but plan to be out Sunday morning – will try to get there by 8:30am and on the water by 9:00am.  Cheers!

Sunday 30 March peak flow -4.9 knots at approx. 10:30am

    Hi Selena,

In case you “need” to go paddling before you get your new neoprene covers, putting a plastic garbage bag between your worn out covers and the boat works great as an interim solution. I did this on a trip with a friend once – he came to visit and rented a boat for a trip and we soon discovered his hatch covers leaked badly. When we held one up to the light we could see through it all around the edges where it was in contact with rim of the boat. Luckily, I always carry a couple of green garbage bags to pick up any garbage I find along the way. They worked fabulously for the rest of the trip, even in rough water.

Brooks Paddle Gear – used to be Brooks wetsuits in North Van.

    Now in Burnaby.  778 727-1245

They have the templates for all the kayak hatches and spray skirts.

When Seaward closed up I had 2 new covers made for my Passat – fit perfectly. Very reasonable pricing – less than Seaward was.

    Cheers, Peter

Seconding Maureen’s choice.  I bought new covers last summer from Topkayaker.  They have a large assortment to choose from and will tell you from measurements which covers will fit best.

Looks like the link did not copy. I hope you can find it. They have covers for many out of date models

    Good luck.

I may need to replace my neoprene covers for my hatches on my Nimbus Solander. Does anyone know where to find them?
Since my hatches are not as water tight now, I need more dry bags. Used ones are either too large or still quite expensive. Anyone has recommendations on affordable but good dry bags? Thanks!

We will be having our annual Spring Fling on May 3rd!
So far we have a paddle to Twin Islands and one to Thwaites Landing and will likely have more.
After the paddles we will have our pizza dinner under the large shelter at Cates park in North Vancouver. Registration will open shortly for both the paddles and the dinner.
Please sign up for each if you plan to do both.
Full details and registration forms will be up on the website soon!
We look forward to see many members there again!
