I may need to replace my neoprene covers for my hatches on my Nimbus Solander. Does anyone know where to find them?
Since my hatches are not as water tight now, I need more dry bags. Used ones are either too large or still quite expensive. Anyone has recommendations on affordable but good dry bags? Thanks!

    Hi Selena,

On April 1st, 2025 I visited Steve of Nimbus on Quadra Island and asked about hatch covers. He says he needs to find a new source for his neoprene to make the hatch covers. He was uncertain where and when he would find the small amounts he needs, or at what cost. He has someone who makes the covers but does not work at it on a regular basis. Steve now makes about 20 kayaks a year, so it is not a high volume operation. Although he did say he gets quite a few requests for new hatch covers.

Steve was unable to provide a date when he’ll have new hatch covers available. If yours are leaking, you might be better off sourcing them from Topline or Brooks.

    Hi Selena,

In case you “need” to go paddling before you get your new neoprene covers, putting a plastic garbage bag between your worn out covers and the boat works great as an interim solution. I did this on a trip with a friend once – he came to visit and rented a boat for a trip and we soon discovered his hatch covers leaked badly. When we held one up to the light we could see through it all around the edges where it was in contact with rim of the boat. Luckily, I always carry a couple of green garbage bags to pick up any garbage I find along the way. They worked fabulously for the rest of the trip, even in rough water.

Brooks Paddle Gear – used to be Brooks wetsuits in North Van.

    Now in Burnaby.  778 727-1245

They have the templates for all the kayak hatches and spray skirts.

When Seaward closed up I had 2 new covers made for my Passat – fit perfectly. Very reasonable pricing – less than Seaward was.

    Cheers, Peter

Seconding Maureen’s choice.  I bought new covers last summer from Topkayaker.  They have a large assortment to choose from and will tell you from measurements which covers will fit best.

Looks like the link did not copy. I hope you can find it. They have covers for many out of date models

    Good luck.
