    Hi Kapila,

I was at Mill Bay Blue Dog Kayaking in late August ’25 to try out a used NDK Explorer. If my memory serves me right, there also was a used Romany from the rental fleet available. I don’t know if it’s still there or not, but worth inquiring with them. Search their website and send Dave an email (paddle@bluedogkayaking.com).

Otherwise, keep your eye peeled on FB Marketplace. It had quite a few kayaks when I was looking for one in the summer.

    Cheers,

    Annette

I’m looking for a boat that I can surf. Does anyone have experience with the Karla?

How does it surf? How does it compare to something like the Sterling Progression?

I heard that BCPF achieved their fundraising goal.

The Council of Yacht Clubs/Marine Parks Forever Soc are now lobbying for Elworthy I to become a park. This is located in Waddington Ch, Desolation Sd, to the  N of Roscoe Bay. It has good anchorage, but there is nothing spectacular ashore there.

I notice this Facebook market place add for Thule Hullavator. $750 is a great

price. I paid over $800 for mine over five years ago, now they are over $1000.

    check this add.

I’m not opposed to funding this land purchase, but so far the Prideaux Haven  area within Desolation Sd. Prov Park has excluded or closed all paddling destination sites to overnight use. Meanwhile hundreds of boaters, often with dogs, make frequent shore visits via tenders, so shore use here is very imbalanced.

I think paddlers could and should contribute to other land acquisition projects for greater impact.

Thanks to donations to the BC Parks Foundation (promoted in our last newsletter) another piece of the BC coast is now protected forever.

Together, donors helped raise an incredible $1.25 million, with another $1.25 million matched by the Wilson 5 Foundation. The funds allowed for the purchase of 100 acres of coastal forest and nearly one kilometre of untouched shoreline in Prideaux Haven.

The property’s marbled murrelet habitat, thriving eelgrass beds, and breathtaking views will now remain intact, helping strengthen conservation connections around Desolation Sound Marine Park.

Any interest in 3-4 days at Simson Park later this month (Oct) to finish our trail brushing job and a few other related tasks? Camp at Farm Bay or Drift Bay. Transport by kayak or by power boat. Seeking just 1 or maybe 2 fellow masochists! Could be over a weekend or mid-week. Prefer to go when a favourable weather window is forecast. Nick.    treasurer2 at skabc dot org
