Sorry, I couldn’t figure out how to take my last post off of the forum or to edit it to say sold.  The charts are sold.

    Sorry, Nick and everybody,

I should say 3 or less kt. not 3.5 kt. I have made a wrong count.

    Nick Heath

Wind is the main factor -likely to increase about 11 am or noon. Almost certainly from S.

You are starting in the dark I think? An early start is a good idea if that doesn’t bother you.

I can’t paddle as fast as you can (my usual average is closer to 2.5 kt), but I’d say the trip is do-able, but I wouldn’t find it much fun on the way back, but then I like to dawdle and poke about…

    Hi Everyone,

Any experienced paddlers please give me some advice…

Any one interested in, please join…

I am TRYING paddling 19 Nm round trip to Granite falls from Deep cove this Sunday Sep 1st. My plan of pacing is 3.5 nm per hour, with 2 short breaks in the middle and 1 hour break before heading back. OTW 5:30 AM, Tide chart shows highest tide at 7:23 AM (I guest that there is time delay in Indian Arm, therefor, I will paddle in lack tide some hours before reaching Granite falls). Resting 9:00 AM-10:00 AM then heading back. I will take all advices and update my plan. Thank you very much.

My personal email is tedlam1011@gmail.com or text me @778-939-6423.

On the one hand it’s good to have new Canadians take an interest in the outdoors, but they need to do it in the language of the country and it’s good practice for them. I’ve no idea what all those Chinese characters meant, but for many years Rupert Wong from Hong Kong ran an excellent sea kayaking camp on an island off Kyuquot which was heavily patronised by kayakers from back east. He had a degree in marine biology and lots of zodiacs to explore the coast with for those who didn’t want to paddle. His camp was most luxurious. His company, West Coast Expeditions, is still operating.  More power to it.

    Dear SKABC Members,

As you are probably aware, we’re battling forum spam. The person posting is not a member of SKABC but was somehow able to post without authorization. This has been discussed by the club executive. Today, an additional anti-spam setting was activated on the forum. Hopefully this will stop the problem but still allow the forums to be user-friendly. If you notice any differences please let me know.  If we continue having this issue we can go to a moderated forum where each post is approved by an admin.

    Thanks for your patience.

FYI: this is a free event — or make a donation by purchasing an umbrella.

Hello, my name is Alex Laviolette, and I’m a grade 12 student at Howe Sound Secondary, and the Events Coordinator for My Sea to Sky this summer.

I am really excited to let you know that we are hosting an #OrcaCelebration on Sunday 29th September, 2019. After last year’s event was cancelled due to rain, we made this year’s event waterproof. How? We’re going to create an orca out of people holding umbrellas!

    RSVP NOW:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/orca-celebration-tickets-69535369161

After nearly a century the orcas have returned to Howe Sound, and we think that’s worth celebrating. It’s a sign that Howe Sound is coming back to life, and all our efforts are having a major impact.

You can bring your own black, white, or blue umbrella for free, or support My Sea to Sky by purchasing a #ProtectHoweSound umbrella in black, white, or teal for $25.

    ORDER YOUR UMBRELLA:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/orca-celebration-tickets-69535369161

    ORCA ACTION: 4:00pm – 5:00pm, Sunday 29th September 2019

    PICNIC CELEBRATION: 5:00pm – 9:00pm, Sunday 29th September 2019

WHERE: O’Siyam Pavilion, Cleveland Avenue, Squamish BC

IMPORTANT! You need to order your #ProtectHoweSound umbrella before 4th September. We need everyone to RSVP so we can plan this action.

Howe Sound is a treasure in our backyard that needs to be protected. Join us in this fun, family-friendly event which will be captured by drone to create a cool video starring you!

Join us afterwards for a community picnic from 5pm to 9pm at Junction Park/O’Siyam Pavilion, with food trucks, live music, kid zone, facepainting, yoga, booze garden, silent auction, cool prizes, and the premiere of our Heart of Howe Sound videos.

We’re looking for volunteers to help with planning and coordination on the day. If you’d like to help out please email me at: events@myseatosky.org

We are very grateful for the support of our fabulous sponsors, Patagonia, Accorde Properties, Gillespie’s Fine Spirits, Backcountry Brewing, Northyards Cider Co. and many other community partners.

Looking forward to seeing you at our #OrcaCelebration soon!

Thanks guys. I did try further back Philip, but fell off lol. I did get it to work further up today and also had success with heel/hook.

    Hello Harley,

If you wish to continue to use the scramble, try getting on your kayak closer to the stern. The farther back you go, the more the stern will sink, and the easier it is to get on the deck. Of course, the downside is that you have farther to travel along the deck to get into the cockpit.

    Regards,

    Philip

Thanks Maureen and Heather. Maybe I should try the inflatable float. Never used one. Issue I find Maureen with the extra width is actually being able to straddle the cockpit. It’s just too wide for my tight hips lol.
