    Dear All,

Due to conflicts with volunteerism (exec meeting on the 23rd of Feb) and conflicts with a proposed date on the 24th of Feb for most people, we will have to reschedule our conservation social meet up for March 22, 2016. I do realize that this is during the Spring Break but I wanted to keep to the third Tuesday of each month.
This will give me time as well to pull together some topics for the next time we see each other. Some good news is that the Howe Sound trip is coming together for June 15th. I have also received a lot of information regarding Leave No Trace Camping and hope to bring up the topic at the next executive meeting. Finally could we plan a day trip and perhaps look at some measures of garbage documentation and or pickup – Jonathon could we have some ideas?
Do let me know if you can commit to the 22nd of March 2016 at 7pm at Zawa’s.
    Best wishes,
    Roxanne

Already gave another commitment for that evening. I’m sorry to not attend.

    Hi Roxanne,

    There’s a 50-50 chance I can come Wed eve.

Hi Conservation Minded and Engaged SKABC Paddlers! Our next social gathering to enjoy each other’s company and ideas was scheduled for Tuesday February 23rd however a rescheduled SKABC executive meeting is for same date. I would love to build on the ideas momentum generated at our last gathering. I know this is very short notice but would love to meet on Wednesday February 24th at the very accommodating restaurant called Zawa’s at 7pm. Let me know if you can join in? Best Roxanne

Thks for the helpful advice, Maureen.  Caulfield worked well, except for the lack of a nearby washroom (there is one at Pilot Cove , however).

Thks too to the fine group of club paddlers who participated and my apologies for paddling so far on a B2 rated trip (18 NM). The bitt was between my teeth and the weather fair and sunny! Thks for  the super blog, Reed!

Good decision. I like the reverse order. I can always scroll to the bottom to find the original post, but if I have checking the site regularly, I don’t need to.

    🙂

    Hi Nick,

I just noticed the original post wrt launch spots.

I paddle often in Howe Sound and Bachelor Bay is a very good launch site. The bay is well protected and cars can be safely left overnight if you plan to camp in the sound. A short carry down the ramp, then park on the street. The logs come and go at all of these launches. Whytecliff is my preferred option out of season. In winter the beach washroom is closed, but the park washroom is open. I use wheels down the ramp, then it is just a short carry over the logs to the beach. Watch out for divers and parking is day use only. Porteau cove offers free day-use parking, washrooms and outside shower for those of us who like to get wet!

    Happy paddling, Maureen

As you may know, we’re updating the SKABC website. We’ve added three forums to make it easier to connect with fellow members, ask questions, learn, share experiences, discuss trip ideas, etc.:

    • General Discussion forum, where you can pose any questions kayaking or club related.
    • Buy & Sell forum, a great place to go to if you’re looking to sell or buy equipment.
    • Short Notice Paddles forum, to find trips or paddling partners for last minute trips.

Today we subscribed all members to all three forums so you can try forums and subscription updates. This means that you will automatically receive a message whenever a fellow member posts a new topic to a forum. Note that only members can post to the forums and reply to topics.

You can unsubscribe from any forum at any time (but we hope you will give them a try first). Simply go to the website and log in; go to the Forums menu, then to Manage My Forums and click the red X mark for the forum (or any topics) from which you want to unsubscribe.

Join the conversation and enjoy the exchange of information. Stay tuned! There will be some good deals to be had in the Buy and Sell forum!

And finally, take a look at the latest News post. If you enjoy hearing about kayaking adventures, join Jaime Sharpe next Wednesday, February 17 at Capilano University’s Centre for the Performing Arts to hear about his trip around Svalbard Archipelago in Northern Norway.

Turned out to be a great day for a paddle. Thanks to Nick for leading this trip.

I’ve got a few pics of the day up on my blog at:

This is just an addendum to my February 2 post.

I had wanted to put some pictures up to show what I was talking about there. I decided that what I needed was a format where I could both write and show pics. After some poking around, I settled on a freebie blog from WordPress.

If you go to my blog site, you can see some pics of Ramillies and the obligatory pretty sunset shot.

The revised plan is to go Monday rather than Sunday to dodge some rain.

8 am Caulfield Cv. Still room for a couple more paddlers.

Order is now reversed (newest reply at the top and oldest at the bottom). The original topic creator post stays at the top.

Thanks to all who commented and emailed.

Those emails should have been forum replies 😉 !

Hi All, That’s great news Reed! Nick is it possible to share launch details soon if this day trip is still a go? Thanks!
