Watch the currently-running pinks, coho, and chum swim upstream in the shallow Harrison River, and perhaps see eagles feeding on the spent bodies of those which choose to spawn in the Harrison, Morris, or Weaver.
This all-day, down-river event starts at 9am at the put-in on Harrison Lake at Harrison Hot Springs. It requires setting a shuttle at the take-out point, Kilby Provincial Park (a 25-minute drive one-way); car pooling is recommended.
We will pause at the Chehalis sacred rock and see the pictographs that have adorned the rock for centuries, if not millennia. Lunch will be on the beach at the confluence of the Morris and Harrison, and some may take a short round-trip paddle up the Morris slough to the end of Weaver Creek after lunch.
The total trip distance is 17 kilometers, plus 5 for the Morris side trip. For real salts, that is 9 or 12 nautical miles. The paddle is classified B2 but is suitable for a fit beginner in large part because we will be paddling relatively lightly with the current. (Pray for rain to get an even stronger flow going.)
There is a route map with all the details and pictures posted here: http://www.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=8045087.
After shuttling some boats and people from the take out back to Harrison Lake to reclaim all the vehicles, we’ll finish the day with dinner at the Sasquatch Pub near the takeout. We should be able to assemble here, starting at 5:00 and with the last arriving closer to 6:00. To partake in this ~20km paddle, contact Randy Chatterjee rchat@me.com or Rose Sirois siroisrose@gmail.com.

After some testing, our software seems to be working and the problem appears to be with the hosting company or with spam filters used by some mail services. We are working with the hosting company.
A quick check today shows that the problem may already be resolved. If you get an email alert for this posting, please leave a comment.
Susan JensenHi again, we activated email logging and will see if we can track down the problem.
Susan JensenThanks Harald. I am subscribed and have made sure the notifications box is checked. If anyone replies to this hopefully I will get an email.

Former MemberWow, if I had seen this earlier I would definitely be out there!
Susan JensenJust saw your post Karin — did you end up going today? It was such beautiful weather!
September 29, 2015 at 4:47 pm in reply to: Short Notice Paddles. Personal trips not officially sponsored by SKABC #8827Karin HartnerThe weather is so glorious, it’s a shame not to be out there in our kayaks. If you are interested in joining me for this paddle (not for beginners, please) please contact me at karinhartner@gmail.com or 604-803-5215.
Launch at 11 am. at the boat ramp at Ambleside. Bring a lunch and sunscreen. The tide will be with us at least in English Bay.
Former MemberI am subscribed in my profile and gives me the option to “unsubscribe” on the short paddle notice page; perhaps a configuration problem on the server?
Former MemberHey Randy,
Sorry, I just saw your response now; I was expecting notification of any responses, I was getting them before and will check my settings.
Anyways yes NW 15 to 20 on the South side would probably amount to less than the relaxed evening paddle that I had envisioned.
My times posted are a little behind on the events, I did come across this afterwards:
Vancouver: Don’t expect to see any of the preliminaries on the West Coast. The celestial show will only barely be visible just above the eastern horizon as the total eclipse is already beginning, around 7:11 p.m. PT. It will peak at 7:47 – when it will be just seven degrees above the horizon – and end at 8:23, with the closing penumbral stages over by 10:22 p.m.
But alas I didn’t think that anyone else was interested and made alternate land based plans.
Cheers,
Brad
