Andrea KovitsHi Selena,
On April 1st, 2025 I visited Steve of Nimbus on Quadra Island and asked about hatch covers. He says he needs to find a new source for his neoprene to make the hatch covers. He was uncertain where and when he would find the small amounts he needs, or at what cost. He has someone who makes the covers but does not work at it on a regular basis. Steve now makes about 20 kayaks a year, so it is not a high volume operation. Although he did say he gets quite a few requests for new hatch covers.
Steve was unable to provide a date when he’ll have new hatch covers available. If yours are leaking, you might be better off sourcing them from Topline or Brooks.

Sleek. Fast. Maneuverable. FUN!!!!
Construction: G-Core (fiberglass)
Nominal paddler weight: 165-210 lbs
Length: 17.5′
Width: 21.25″
Weight: 58.5 lbs
Total litres: 80.5 gallons
Cockpit: 34.25″x19.3″
This beauty is one of TideRace’s ealier designs. Her length and retractable skeg means she tracks well in all conditions. Her hard chines and moderate rocker make her predictable and maneuverable. All that in a very stable package for a boat so narrow.
This boat has been on multinight trips. She’s at home in calm seas and plays well in tidal rapids and surf. It’s a great crossover between expedition and play.
Located in Port Hardy (not port moody), but may be able to arrange a meet up at Duke Point or Departure Bay (or North) for serious interest and additional charge.
FYI – The Jackson Karma R/G (great rock gardening boat) in the pic is for sale too. $600.00
Quirine SchuyffCathy, everything has been claimed. Thanks. I’ll edit the post.

Quirine SchuyffThis bundle has all been claimed BUT I actually have one I don’t use and would be happy to pass it along as it has been under my bed unused for a couple of years.
Jennifer LloydWould like very much to join you on this fun paddle. I’ll plan on being in DC by 9:00 to unload and then find a park. Looking forward to my first paddle of the season!

March 30, 2025 at 10:55 pm in reply to: Suggested Broken Group Itinerary for 2 adults + 1 pre-teen @3 nights #26071Ronald SimmerHi Oron
are you staying at the lodge for your trip through the broken islands?
I did this trip many years ago when the rates at the lodge were cheaper… I might be interested in joining your trip if you like. I have lead many trips to the west coast of Vancouver island. Phone me if you like Ron at 604 803 5937
Andrew MyllyWell, due to lack of wind, no big waves this time. I think a northwest wind is the key ingredient. However, even without the waves, this is a great spot for people to get used to paddling in currents, whenever there is an outflow of 3-4 knots or higher. Just check dairiki.org and search for “currents at first narrows, british columbia”. It’s really accessible launching from Ambleside park, and you can choose to go into the moving water lower down (further west) where it isn’t quite as fast. As long as you are dressed correctly (wetsuit or drysuit), worst case scenario if you swim is you float half way to Point Atkinson before you rescue yourself or get rescued!
