I am planning an overnight trip this weekend to Keats Island, leaving from Bowen Island. According to my map there are put-ins at both Galbraith Bay and Bowen Bay, both on the west side. Has anyone paddled to Keats Island from either of these locations and do you know if overnight parking is allowed? Are there any hazards crossing between the two islands that we should be aware of? And where can I find information on currents? I did find tide charts on the Fisheries and Oceans Canada website.
Thanks,

Harley CrossThanks Heather. I will take a look đ
Heather KirkHi Harley,
Try the heel hook rescue. It’s bomb-proof. Here’s website to do it assisted but it can be done solo too with a good paddle float:

Harley CrossHi,
I used to belong to this group years ago, then sold the Chatham 17 for a Hobie fishing kayak. Anyway, back again now after purchasing a used CD Solstice GT in Kevlar. Great boat and a lot more stable than my Chatham. But, this has pluses and minuses. One of the negatives appears to be re-entry after a wet exit. Maybe being a few years older itâs me, but with the boat being wider itâs harder to get up on and scramble. Anyone have/had this boat and have any tips/advice?
apart from learn to roll lol. Many thanks
Harley
Stan MatierThanks for all the info everyone. We decided to stay the 3 nights at Chivers Point on Wallace Island. We did paddle over to Tent, and it is very scenic. The bay on the west side of the island was very busy with boats.
Thanks Again
Stan
Peter KearneyTry the free version of GAIA – worldwide topo maps and GPS tracking.
And of course, Navionics for charts but now you have to pay for North America.
The biggest issue I have with old phones is battery life.
Cheers, Peter
Peter KearneyHi Tracey,
This is a great opportunity for someone. Steve Konik and Ocean Sound are fabulous. Katrin and I have done 2 tours with them.
If you collect ‘Airmiles’ you can redeem for this flight – a good deal.
Hope you find someone!  Cheers, Peter
AdminHi Daniel, on the Trip Planning page of the website we have a gear checklist — does this help?
Svetozar TzonkovHi Maureen,
I would love to join too.
Deep Cove in front of the rental shop at 7.30 sounds good.
Thanks

Darlene BrownHi Maureen,
I’m up for either Howe Sound or Indian Arm and a full paddlin’ day on Sunday. Early, early, early would/could be magic! Not just sunrise, but sky brighten-lightening.

Tracey PhamSee below an opportunity for a guided tour in Gwaii Haanas. Short notice, but these tours usually fill up way ahead of time so if you can make it, it’d be a great opportunity at a much lower cost.
“I have one space available for a guided tour of Haida Gwaii for the dates of August 23 to September 3.  The person who had it booked has had to cancel, and we are looking for someone to fill that spot.  Boats, tents, food and guiding are included. The participant would have to travel to Sandspit (space is available on Air Canada for approx. $630, and accommodation is approx. $150 for the night before and after the tour). The situation is that my brother has paid $2,700 for the tour but is unable to attend. I would love to see him get at least 50% of that, but at this point he is open to offers as the spot has to be filled and the date is rapidly approaching.
This tour is operated by Ocean Sound Kayaking.  Anyone should feel free to look at their site, but contact must be made through me for this ticket.
If anyone is interested and available, please have them respond to my personal e-mail at qtnme3@gmail.com “

August 9, 2019 at 10:10 am in reply to: Short Notice Paddles. Personal trips not officially sponsored by SKABC #17489Maureen BenzonThe weather is looking cooler on Sunday. I would like to be on the water early (how early is up to participants) I would like to paddle either Indian Arm up to Silver Falls, lunch on Thwaites or Crocker Island or anywhere on Howe Sound.
Extended marine forecast for Howe Sound for Sunday
Wind southerly inflow 5 to 15 knots increasing to southerly inflow 20 to 30 in the afternoon.
Let me know if you would like to join me and where and how far you would like to paddle. We will include a little rescue or rolling practice along the way if you are interested, so be prepared to sit and watch if you don’t roll / rescue.
Daniel Del VecchioIn my field we have a lot of âfield guideâ ( aide-memoire)
but looking around in the kayak world seem not many exist or every info is scattered. If you would have to make one… what would you put in it?đ
