2. Yellow rain jacket. Old but never worn. Woman’s large

3. O’Neill wet suit jacket. Hardly worn. Woman’s medium (although I can’t find the size on it)

4. Kayak white water helmet. I have a small head.

Kayak event: Floating Concert on the water

On Thursday, July 7th, RAVEN & SCOUT is kicking off our first show for Festival Afloat Salish Sea Tour in the waters just off Jericho Beach, Featuring Juno Nominee Desirée Dawson. Paddlers will again surround the Providence, a gorgeous wooden sailing ship that will serve as the ‘stage’ for the evening’s performance. Tickets are free or by donation.

We’re raising money for Heiltsuk and Gitxaała Nation.
Heiltsuk Nation aims to enshrine ocean stewardship values into law. Meanwhile, Gitxaała Nation is taking B.C. and several mining companies to court over mineral claims.

Bring your canoe, kayak, stand-up paddleboard or rowboat to launch at Jericho Beach or paddle over from Spanish Banks, Kits Beach or False Creek. It’s summertime parking, so plan to arrive early and go for a swim or paddle before the 7:00 pm start time. We’ll have facilitators helping load and unload boats and direct traffic.

Featuring:
Desirée Dawson is a recording artist, songwriter, producer and yoga teacher. Desiree was born, raised and is currently residing in the occupied, traditional, unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ / sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations (also known as “Vancouver BC”) and can often be found sharing her music internationally. Desirée is of mixed ancestry; her mother French-Canadian settler ancestry is from “Ontario ” and her father is of African descent from “South Carolina ”. Desiree is very passionate about music’s role in collective healing by encouraging listeners to find a connection within themselves and the people and land around them. Whether performing solo with her baritone Ukulele, in harmony with her band or leading sound healing workshops, Desirée’s music is made to get us feeling and healing.

I am planning to paddle before the club picnic on Monday July 4th. If anyone interested please post on this forum so that other’s know.
Meet up at 2pm near Locarno Beach “Trimble Street parking” lot next to public washrooms, ready to launch by 2:30pm.
Paddle towards Wreck beach and back for the picnic around 5pm. Approximately six nautical miles paddle.
Lowest tide at 3:32pm, may have to drag bots further when launching, and possibly return.

I will be joining two visitors from Australia for two back-to-back trips on the dates listed in the topic.  (You may may have seen a post here from Sam a few weeks ago.  Search the forum for “Sam North” to find it.)  Since there are just the three of us, we’re offering places for one or two more people to join us on one or the other of the trips, or both.  (Clark Perry-Bater may be joining us for the second one.)

For the first trip, we will travel to Telegraph Cove on July 16 and then launch from there on July 17 to explore the Johnstone Strait/Broughton Archipelago area.  On July 21 we will return to Telegraph Cove and camp there or nearby.  (If you want to join us for just the first trip, you could head home on the 21st.)  The next day, July 22, we will drive to Port Hardy and head out towards God’s Pocket and beyond.  (If you want to join us for just the second trip, you’d need to meet us near Telegraph Cove on the afternoon or evening of July 21.)  On July 28 we will return to Port Hardy and on July 29 we will head back to Nanaimo and the ferry home.

We plan to change campsites most nights to maximize the area we can cover but will probably spend two nights at least one campsite each trip.  Distances travelled each day will vary, based on the weather, how people are feeling, etc. but we expect to cover somewhere between 6 and 12 nautical miles most days.  Both trips are most suitable for intermediate to advanced paddlers who are able to handle trips in the 3B to 3C range, although much of our paddling should be in easier waters.

If you are interested, please get in touch with me as soon as possible, either by replying here or emailing me at georgepr@telus.net.  I’m leaving for a week-long trip Saturday morning, returning the evening of Friday, July 8, and it would probably be best if you’re able to contact me before I leave.
