Hello SKABC members,

As announced tonight at the club meeting, we are excited to be able to offer a Remote First Aid certificate course to our members which will provide a focus on the scenarios that we are most likely to experience as kayakers (on water and offer water).

HOWEVER, we require a minimum of 8 participants for the June 2-4 Remote First Aid Course being offered to SKABC members.

REGISRATION DEADLINES:  We now have 7 registration requests. We require 8 members to commit to this “kayaker focused” offering if it is to proceed.  The class maximum is 12 members. Once we have 8 “registrations” we will send payment instructions.

If we do not have 8 members registerered and committed to the course by the end of Friday May 5th we will be inviting cross club members to register.  So… don’t delay.

Lately parking has been really busy at Rocky point area.

I sometimes park at the moody center sky train station  parking lot, it is 3 CAD for the full day. It is a short walk, 5 to 10 minutes.

I checked road sign last year.  That side of the street is technically for trailers.  I can re-check tomorrow.  But I moved my car last year.

Last year it is 4hr parking maximun everywhere.  You will need to move your car throughout the day.

I am asking if someone in Port Moody can check parking restrictions and time limits on Esplanade Ave.near the Boathouse at Rocky Point Park. (Photo below)

With our Big Brothers/Sisters event on June 3rd our volunteers need parking for the day. Last year we parked on Esplanade which was unlimited. I’d like to know if this option is still available to us.

My wife purchased this Kokatat Meridian SM woman’s dry-suit just over a year ago, and has used it on a number of paddles and a trip, but it is a little too large for her and is he has subsequently found an extra-small Drysuit that fits her much better.

The suit is in almost new condition. These are $2,039.95+tax at MEC – it is the Goretex-Pro version of the suit, not the cheaper Hydrus material.

Hello members.  We had a cancellation for tomorrow morning’s Intro to Rolling clinic from 9 am – noon.  And there is still a spot open in the afternoon session. It’s going to be a beautiful day at Sasamat Lake. Registration is open until 7:30 pm tonight. Once I have your registration details I will send payment instructions.

PS – the spot on the VHF Radio workshop is still open too. If anyone tried to register for any of these before about 10 am, please revisit the site. It should work now.  Email me if you still have a problem.

This email to our members is a quick reminder about 2 Saturday courses with spaces still available, 3 date sensitive registrations and a new opening for the Weather course. Details for each of the following are available on this page (scroll down to the course calendar and details).

We have one spot still open for Saturday April 29th for the following: 

1. Introduction to Rolling Clinic – afternoon session.  Weather is looking great. Take advantage of it!

2. VHF Radio review Workshop

Coast Outdoors – “Know before you buy” event on May 10  – This free event will be cancelled if we do not meet the minimum number by May 1st.  We have requested an extension to May 2nd (after the Club meeting May 1st).

Remote First Aid – Jun 2-4th:  We have 6 members registered. We need at least 2 more.  The course will be opened to our cross club members after May 5th if we have not met our minimum of 8 to ensure the course can be delivered.  So… don’t delay. If you have questions, email me.

Trip Leader Workshop – May 18-25 – While there is still time, May is just around the corner.  If you are interested in leading trips, don’t miss this really informative workshop.

Weather Course – May 27-28 – A space has opened up. If you are interested in this course, now is the time to sign up!

Is anyone willing and able to make a large salad for everyone to share at the spring fling? We already have two but would like to have another to create a more balanced meal at the fling!
SKABC will reimburse you for the ingredients. Please consider a reasonable budget though. Should you be interested please email social2@skabc.org to clarify so we don’t have duplicate salads.

As many members know, we are working with BC Parks on a paddle-in campsite at Apodaca Park, Bowen I.  On Monday 1 May they plan to drop additional materials there by boat. I’m planning to take the ferry to Bowen and walk in to the site to help move those materials off the beach and possibly finish the tent platforms which were started last week and on which work continues today and tomorrow, too.

There are small pre-built stairs to attach to the toilet and maybe a kayak rack can be built.  Pl. let me know if interested. Work clothes, lunch, needed. Rubber boots if wading ashore.  Backpack for carrying some tools. Pl message me (Nick Heath)
