Joint PIKA/SKABC CLUB NIGHT JUNE 26 at Skyview

The sales rep from Globalstar Systems who we know as SPOT will be doing a presentation on the SAR system and introducing their new 2-Way unit called SPOT X, as well as their Trace unit which can be concealed in a kayak and used to track the location of your kayak in the event of a theft.

The store will be open to members of both clubs from 6.30 to 8.30pm and Skyview will provide coffee and snacks.

There will be a number of promotional kayak items available and the opportunity to use the regular club discount and meet members from PIKA.

Let’s get out to SKYVIEW OUTDOORS on June 26, learn about some interesting technologies and meet folks from PIKA.

Join the team for our booth at MEC Paddlefest

Join the team at SKABC’s booth at the MEC Paddlefest at Jericho on June 16.

While at the Paddlefest, you can learn new skills at the clinics, demo an array of boards and boats, and check out the gear swap.

At our club's booth, Larry F. will be giving demos on "Packing a kayak for a Multiday Trip".

Update on June 9: We still need volunteers that can help man the tent between noon and 3pm to promote SKABC.

Contact Calvin at outreach@skabc.org to find out how you can help out.

Open Houses and Survey on public facilities for paddlers in Vancouver

The Vancouver Park Board is looking for your feedback about On Water: Vancouver's Non-motorized Watercraft Strategy. "Help us imagine the future of canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and more for Vancouver's waterways!" There is an online survey and two more open houses between now and March 16.

SKABC members: On the club's General Discussion Forum, you can organize with other members on attending open houses. (Several SKABC Members attended February 27) We can also discuss proposals to put forward to the Parks Board as a club. We have the opportunity to give feedback until March 16, so there is momentum for coming up with a proposal now.

Details about upcoming Vancouver Park Board open houses: The first hour is a drop-in open house. After that, there is an informal presentation by VPB staff and a workshop. Stay for as much or as little as you can. (If you plan to attend the workshop portion, RSVP at onwater@vancouver.ca)

Attend an Open House on these dates:

-Monday, March 5 from 5:00 pm – 8:30 pm at City Lab, 511 West Broadway Street

-Saturday, March 10 from 10:30 am – 2:00 pm at Jericho Sailing Centre, 1300 Discovery Street

Stay tuned for updates on the club's participation in this process and help with planning on the forum.
