I am reaching out with a request for your assistance in promoting the BC Parks Visitor Satisfaction Survey.

 

BC Parks’ Visitor Satisfaction Survey is a tool used to assess how satisfied park visitors are with various services provided in specific parks and in provincial parks generally. The survey is used to identify current strengths and areas for improvement, provide data for decision-making and planning, and inform future work.

 

The 2024 BC Parks Visitor Satisfaction Survey has launched, and it will be open until late September. This year’s survey has targeted questions for marine users. We are hoping to reach more boaters who may have visited one of our coastal marine-accessible parks to ensure we have heard feedback from a variety of marine park users. The data gathered from the survey will be used to inform how marine parks are managed.

 

To increase participation rates in the survey, we are asking if you would be willing to share and promote the survey within your organization and among your members in hopes of increasing our reach to marine park users.

 

Feel free to share the link to the 2024 BC Parks Visitor Satisfaction Survey with your membership. If you are active on social media, we have a recent Instagram post here that can be shared. I’ve also attached a poster that can be printed and displayed.

Hi folks, I just registered for the Newcastle Island camping trip. All the ferry reservations are sold out for Friday and Monday.  I’m wondering if anyone who is driving on the ferry has room for me and my kayak. I have wheeled on the ferry before for this trip, but it’s complicated doing it alone (guarding my kayak while I walk to get my car). Thanks.

Sounds good.  Ya the Arluk III is a great expedition boat but it’s a bit of a barge.  Might be good for you on an 30+ day expedition.  I’m betting you’ll love the Eliza for day paddles and shorter trips.  I look forward to hearing from you when you get back.  There was a lady in Ucluelet thinking about it, but she wanted me to wait till I head her way in October.  I agreed to if she would put a deposit on it, but she hasn’t done that yet.  For now she’s still available.

I would be interested in trying this kayak. I am a small female and I am looking for a better fitting kayak. I have a Necky Arluk 3, which I like, but it is a bit big for me.
I am going away for 10 days so I wouldn’t be able to try it until I get back. I’ll check back here when I return to see if it is still available.

With the exception of a few small surface scratches (amazingly few for its age) this boat is in excellent shape.  The seat, deck bungies, and perimeter lines are all in great shape.  The hatch covers are brand new aftermarket covers, which IMO, are a far better quality than the Valley hatches these boats originally came with.

 

Specs:

Length – 4.7m (15’3″)

Beam – 53.3 cm (21″)

Weight: approximately 21kg (47lbs)

Cockpit Dimensions: 47.4cmX38.1cm (28.5″X15″).

Comes with a Brooks neoprene skirt in good condition, and I’ll even throw in an old set of Thule Hullavitors for free but don’t get your hopes up too much.  They do work, but admittedly, they are in pretty bad shape.  Should last you at least another season, though.

This boat is designed for lighter paddlers with a smaller build.  Recommended paddler weight for this boat is under 160lbs but she paddles best for paddlers well under that weight. It was marketed as being specifically designed for women, but I’ve seen quite a few smaller, lighter men and teens paddling them.

It is of a Brit-boat design, with a lower back deck making it easier for reentries and back deck manoeuvres, such as lay-back rolls.  Her well defined chines and moderate rocker make it easy to manoeuvre and her well defined keel and skeg make excellent at tracking with surprisingly high hull speed for a 15 ft boat.  I’m told by many that she’s a true joy to paddle (unfortunately I’m a little heavy to try her out for myself).  And, she has both good initial and secondary stability for a 21″ wide boat.

This is truly a boat both for beginners to feel comfortable in, and for more advanced paddlers to grow their skills in.

If you are in the Port Hardy area, feel free to DM me to test paddle this boat.  Delivery arrangements might be possible to the mid island region for an extra fee.  Or, I’m headed to Ucluelet from October 4th-9th if you’d be interested in me dropping it off somewhere along the way (or the way back).
