    Hi Everyone,

I purchased a dehydrator at Cabelas this past summer, I like it and use it a lot.  I was at Cabelas this weekend and noticed the same dehydrator is on sale from $249.99 to $119.99, in case anyone might be in the market for a dehydrator.  It’s a great sale and clearly they have these sales regularly, although this one is slightly better than when I purchased mine.  The sale is on until January 10th.

Quick comments – I am happy with mine and at the same time, I have no frame of reference as I haven’t owned one before.  I will say this, if I’m in the same room, I can hear it run, however if I am in a different room, even an adjacent room with the door closed, I can’t hear it.  I find the trays easy to clean; when reading reviews before buying mine, some people mentioned that their trays were getting warped, I haven’t had this issue, then again, I wash my trays by hand.

    I hope this is helpful.

    Cheers,

    Chantal

Susan & Richard Jensen and I are planning to paddle tomorrow. We plan to launch at 10:30 from Blackie Spit (White Rock/South Surrey), we’ll paddle to the pier in White Rock, have a little lunch and eventually paddle back. The duration of the paddle is dependent on the weather and the group. Please send me a note if you’d like to join us just so we don’t leave anyone behind.

(From Eoin & the My Sea to Sky team regarding the proposed Burnco gravel mine in Howe Sound)

“Yesterday I met with staff from the BC Environmental Assessment Office (BC EAO). I left the meeting hopping mad because it is even more apparent that the review of the Burnco gravel mine is a complete sham.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) has turned down this project, twice, because of concerns about the impacts to this project on critical salmon spawning habitat.

Yet the BC EAO is recommending that the Ministers rubber stamp the project, even though the salmon data being used to assess the project for McNab Creek comes from consultants hired by Burnco. Science that is bought and paid for by the proponent has an inherent conflict of interest. This is known as a Professional Reliance approach, and is all too often neither professional nor reliable.

We have 2.5 days left to send a message to Minister Mungall and Minister Heyman to tell them to stop Burnco and fix our broken environmental assessment process.

Thankfully the BC NDP and the BC Greens recently implemented a review of the Professional Reliance approach. The Burnco project is a prime example of how the professional reliance approach is failing us, and puts the fox in charge of the hen house.

DFO has already sent Burnco’s consultants back to collect more data after a local citizen scientist, John Buchanan, sent them video of salmon spawning in the upper channel that contradicted the findings of the consultants.

The BC environmental assessment office is making recommendations to approve Burnco based on insufficient and biased data.

It only takes two minutes to add your name to our template letter. If you have more time, a personalized letter has even more impact.

    TAKE ACTION NOW!

    DEADLINE 10pm, Monday 27th November

Our Citizens Working Group is working hard to review the draft report, and we will submit a scathing review about dust, noise, loss of property values, barge traffic, and all of the issues that the BC EAO has seen fit to ignore.

The truth is that this project is simply in the wrong place. We can put a destructive gravel mine anywhere, but it does not belong in one of only three estuaries we have in Howe Sound.

Please send the Ministers a message now.

Eoin & the My Sea to Sky team”

For those who want to keep the party going — here are some details on where the festivities will continue after 10pm.

Place: Personas Lounge at the Grand Villa Casino and Hotel. 4331 Dominion Street,
Burnaby.  There will be a live band and dancing.

Time: 10pm and on. The lounge stays open til 3am.

Transportation: There are a couple of options for those who don’t want to drive. There is a free hourly shuttle between the casino and skytrain. Here is the schedule . Also there are buses running late that pick up by the casino. About taking a taxi, the person at the casino said that it is best to have a reservation as they can be scarce on a Saturday pm during the holiday season.

Terragrip no-sink feet for your camp chair. You won’t have to worry about sinking in the sand or mud ever again.
A set of 4 feet normally sell for $10.00 USD but I have 4 sets available for $5.00 CAD each. They will fit almost any chair with a leg 14 mm in diameter or smaller…you may just have to put a rubber band on the chair leg if the feet are too loose. These are perfect and are currently unavailable on the Wildhorn Outfitters website.  A great stocking stuffer!!! Reply to this post if interested.

Lord Byng pool is under threat of closure. Staff had a petition at the pool which they were asked to remove. Please make your voice heard.

Lord Byng the the only remaining pool in Vancouver that offers a drop in for kayaks (Friday night at 8.00 to 9.00), so if you wish to practice rescues or rolling please come to the remaining sessions. Maximum usage might sway the decision about kayak drop-ins elsewhere. Having a friendly environment to practice  skills is big factor in our overall safety on the water
