Hi Andrew,

My name is Stuart McIntyre. I moved to Vancouver in June from the UK. I have been slowly gathering gear to go sea kayaking. I have a paddle, dry tops, personal buoyancy aids, and an old kayak.

unfortunately I am waiting for two hatch covers and a spray skirt, all due to be with me in February..

You’d be welcome to borrow anything I have. It would also be great to make contact so that we could maybe out paddling together later in the year, once you have your gear sorted? My details are in the club directory, or drop me your email and I’ll let you have my cell number.

I agree “Semi dry” is a strange word to put with a dry suit. I have a GUL “semi dry” with the same setup as yours just purchased also. Perhaps we need to do a full review to show what they can handle.

A few leaks in a true immersion emergency is way better than nothing at all.

Mustang is a brand to trust.

I took advantage of a 25%-off sale at MEC over the holidays and ordered a men’s Mustang Survival Hudson drysuit.  Rather than latex seals it has a “CCS” neck closure and neoprene cuffs, so it’s more properly classed as a semi-dry suit I’ve learned. For my purposes that works fine.
Does anyone have experience with this suit and/or the Mustang brand – anything  to know before I (literally) take the plunge?  Thanks!

Hello Alistair,

I believe you are our only UK member. I guess you are planning a big expensive trip for 2022? Let’s hope travel restrictions will allow this to happen.

The triple rapid of the Yucultas is a key part of the Inside Passage route and, although it can be avoided, I consider it to be the preferred route between Johnstone Strait and the Strait of Georgia.

I know of only one current club member, Rick Davies, who has made the N-S transit by kayak. That was many years ago, although little will have changed here in the interim.

I did it in a power boat last year to check sites for overnight stops. This was part of my other volunteer role as Site Data Manager for BC Marine Trail Network Assn. I assume you are familiar with this organization and its web map?

I have  quite a lot of info, which I am v happy to share, so  email me preferably with specific questions, please, at treasurer2   at   skabc.org

Just pulled the pin on the juniper drysuit GK0169-B3

I will give  report back on how it handles in a kayak and comfort levels.

The zipper system is indeed way different from other dry suits I have seen.
