I too am not aware of any groups.

I live close to the Langdale ferrry terminal and paddle Thornborough Channel.. west of Gambier Island ,launching from Port Mellon.Easy access to water.. One can back car right up to waters edge.

Another of my haunts is Sechelt Inlet, launch from Porpoise Bay, excellent parking.c Paddle up to Piper Point or Nine Mile Point usually and sometimes beyond.

I am not a cold weather paddler!! I generally paddle April to October mid.

I use a Current Designs Solstice GTS. Give me a shout sometime.

Hi, Danielle I am the paddler that John refers to above. I do not know of any official paddle groups here on the SSCoast (used to be one long ago). I wish there was one. I am always keen to go for a paddle. Give me a shout if you would like to go out. I will go any season as long as it is not too windy or cold. I use a Necky Solander.

Halfmoon Bay is a super paddling location – congratulations!

Several years ago there was a small club on the Sunshine Coast that was an affiliate of SKABC but eventually it folded up. I’ve not heard of any other sea paddling clubs there, although there are likely outdoor clubs that combine a variety of formats.

SKABC continues to have several active, loyal members who are Sunshine Coast residents. More of the same would be great!

Skookumchuck Narrows is all about currents.    The concern I raise here is training in an environment that adequately teaches both self and and assisted rescue after capsizing in heavy wind and waves, and also developing one’s skills (in real world conditions) to avoid capsizing.   We are fortunate in Vancouver, to have these real world conditions at our doorstep!

It deals with development, docks, seashore setbacks and other similar matters. I responded saying recreation and natural feature preservation are important to me, but you might have other views…

Greetings, fellow paddlers!

I’m requesting your support on a federal petition to ban the use of expanded polystyrene (aka styrofoam) in Canadian waters. Over the past few years I’ve been involved in a number of ocean cleanup initiatives on Savary Island and in Desolation Sound, and I now know beyond a doubt that most of what we find on BC’s beaches by volume and by weight is expanded polystyrene, far more than the other single use plastics that have galvanized federal bans so far. This foam is routinely placed directly into the marine environment in the form of dock floatation, but it often escapes from its owners during our increasingly frequent storms. It breaks down even more rapidly than other plastics into tiny particles that are impossible to recover, adsorbs persistent organic pollutants in marine waters and can become increasingly toxic the longer it’s in the water. Like all marine plastics, it is readily mistaken for food by mammals, fish, and birds. Think of it as a continual solid oil spill.

I initiated the petition with the full support and help of the office of my MP, Rachel Blaney (Vancouver Island North-Powell River). For every 30 paper signatures MP Blaney will stand in the House of Commons to represent the issue. For every 500 signatures on the e-petition, she’ll do the same. The goal is to allow her to bring up the issue over and over again in Parliament. Please be counted as someone who wants action on this preventable waste and pollution!
