This course is designed to offer participants the basic skills and knowledge to make kayaking a safe and enjoyable sport. We cover basic paddle skills as well as wet exits and how to re-enter your boat in the event of a capsize. This course is broken into two parts - in class and on water. The in class portion is on the evening of the first day (6:30 pm - 9:30 pm) and the on water portion takes place at a local beach access area. Check the event details for location and other notes.

To paddle safely in currents one requires basic knowledge of currents such as when and where they form as well as developing skills such as ferrying across currents and crossing eddy lines to manoeuvre in and around them.
