Hi. Brand new SKABC member seeking info for a three night trip, potentially launching from Mount Gardner Govt Dock on Bowen, paddling up the west coast of Gambier, around the north end to either Thornborough Point or Douglas Bay and back to Bowen. We don’t know if there is camping on west side of Gambier so any info from experienced paddlers welcome. Thanks!

Because Bella Bella is an Indigenous Community, I would suggest you contact the Band. I suspect that they will want you to barge your car to and from Shearwater, but do contact them to make sure.

Hi,  we are heading to Bella Bella later this summer for a paddling trip.  We’ll have a vehicle with us due to carrying on to Bella Coola and up Hwy 20 later in the trip.  Wondering if anyone has experience with leaving a vehicle in Bella Bella?  Would be grateful for any tips on the best place to leave it. Thanks!

Should bring kayak wheels if you have. Easy to takedown boats to the beach.

Wrist gasket replacement went really well. Tool came out easily without sticking to the glue however wrap around using parchment paper as Vincent’s comment is a good idea.

Dollar store cutting board plastic with cardboard insert works well.

    Thanks for everyone’s feedback.

in reply to: Duke Point Ferry – possible to paddle from? #22987

Yes, you can and you can find info on BCMT. Nick will have advice too. However George, Deb, Alix & I landed at Duke Point in Sept 2022. It was one of the most gruelling landing to get to the ferry. 4 of us with straps had to carry loaded kayaks over waist high logs. Then we got to a narrow trail. We used wheels but there were a number of sets of stairs we had to use straps and carry. Let alone the drop offs to the rocks below. Then you get to a parking lot. You can then pull your kayak up a hill for a km and then you get to the terminal. Then they open a narrow gate to go down a steep hill to get onto the ferry. I said WTF and will never do that again.

I see this question was asked before and it seems somewhat possible but I’d be interested to hear any thoughts, opinions or advice. I’d rather not take my car if possible but I feel I may need to. I’d be traveling alone.
    Nick: I’ll contact you.
