    Hello all members

Our next in-person meeting will be SUNDAY June 7 at Trout Lake.

We are thinking of hosting a “mini trips symposium”. Many of you have done trips to intersting places. We need volunteers to host a table and answer questions about their favourite venue. All you need is a chart and photographs. Please contact trips2@skabc.org for more information. Provide your phone number and I will call you back.

    Hi Lin and Maureen,

I can’t tell if this is directly to me or to the group; but, Allana (my wife) sent an email a few days ago saying she and I wouldn’t be able to attend the 16 – 21 June trip.

I just wanted to confirm that neither I (Will Cullen) or Allana (LeBlanc) are going to be able to attend.

Just wanted to make sure this was clear so we don’t leave you hanging!

My apologies if this was already clear 🙂

    Cheers,

    Will

We have had a cancellation which has opened up a spot. Altough you have until 10 June to register, we are having a quick meeting tomorrow evening (Wednesday 22 April) to discuss carpooling. If you are interested, please sign up befor 6.00 pm tomorrow 🙂

Good route – like the same we tried in 2025. Hope the wind is more co-operative this year! In Fall I partly checked some pinch overnight sites near Osborne Bay, Maple Bay, Crofton, Bader’s Bch in case the Narrows are in flood by the time you reach them.

btw That trip classification has become somehow un-formatted and no longer makes sense…

    Hi Kapila,

I’ll send you an e-mail directly.  Thanks.

Cynthia Kennedy and I am organizing a trip to Gulf Islands between July 22nd to 30th, we have 2 spots available if anyone interested.

This is a 3C level trip, paddlers should be able to perform self and assisted rescue comfortably. Also able to paddle up to 15Nm distances with possible moderate wind and current conditions.

    Route option 1:-
Start from Montague Harbor, Paddle to Wallace (Cabin Bay or Conover Cove) and camp
Paddle to Musgrave (15Nm from Cabin Bay) and camp
    Paddle to Ruckle Park, camp
Paddle to James Bay (Prevost) back to Montague Harbor.
    Total about 50Nm

Option 2 If option 1 is not viable due to wind/current conditions:-
Start Montague Harbor, paddled to Wallace (Cabin Bay or Conover Cove) and camp
Paddled to Ruckle Park and camp
Paddle to James Bay (Prevost) and camp
    Paddle back to Montague Harbor.
    Total about 35Nm

    Please see Trip classification below.

Please let us know if any questions or posted on this forum.

    Thank you,

    Kapila

Haha “mostly drysuit” has its limits  😄

I have that spare drysuit if that’s the only thing holding you back.

That said, only come if you’re feeling good about the distance and the two-day push.

Would be great to have you if it lines up.

The Paddle Expo is at Cultus Lake on May 3rd. SKABC will have a tent there and I will be there with Darlene B. If you’d like to volunteer with us please email me at quisch@gmail.com.
Or just pop in and demo some boats and come say hi!

Gosh with all of these rave reviews maybe I should switch from my current Yakima Sweet Roll system! I was watching this thread to see everyone’s thoughts. I do like my system but it takes a bit of wrangling.

I may join. I have a second drysuit now but the gaskets are in shreds. It was fine for Granite Falls with the knowledge that if I went in my head and arms had to stay above water!
I may be able to fix them in some crazy way. I shall see.
Also contemplating the distance and whether I’m up for it!

    Sounds like a nice trip!

Ken, count me in. See you at Portal Cove on the 25th at 08:00.

Hey Paul – yeah, I think you can handle this one.

It’s a step up from Gambier, longer days and loaded boats, but you held your own in that wind on the way back with no issues.

Come dialed on food, hydration and you’ll be good.

    Ken.

Hi Sue we bought one last year and it has been a huge difference maker for us in loading and unloading our kayak. It now takes 5-10 minutes to do it and you can tie your bow and stern lines at eye level. The hydraulic makes it super light to lift it up and down. This is a back saver. The install is easy enough I did it myself but the disassembly and reassembly of the cradle part can be a little tricky but after doing a few times it becomes easier. I included a YouTube video here to show the easy step by step install. Also look on Facebook marketplace as sometimes there are gently used ones that can save you some money.
