Hi Kendra, another of our members paddles a skin/frame inflatable (Trak is the brand I think) and she participates in lots of group paddles. I don’t think you need to feel limited by that type of kayak (if it’s a reputable manufacturer). As for storage places, I know there is a user group that stores their kayaks at Barnet Marine Park. I think the best way to find out about it is to contact the City of Burnaby Parks and Rec. I tried to find something online, but no luck.

Another is Hollyburn in West Vancouver if that is more convenient.

I don’t know much about either.

Club Locarno kayak option is the closest thing I know to what you are asking

    Hi,

I am a Vancouver apartment dweller and I am feeling limited this year from trips because my kayak is a skin on frame/inflatable and I don’t want to push it in challenging conditions and put the group at risk.

I am looking for options for borrowing or storing a “real” ocean kayak.  Does anyone know of a kayak co-op in the area where I could buy into shared kayaks which could be signed out to take on trips?  I don’t think I’m ready to own my own, but I’d love to be in a kayak-share.

If this doesn’t exist, do any of you out there think this would be something worth looking into?

Also, does anyone know if there is available kayak storage at Barnet Marine Park.  On the map it looks like there is small craft storage, but I can’t find anything online about getting your name on a list to get a spot.

Than you for sharing your knowledge,

    Kendra Fehr

Mar 16, 17 looks like it will work!

The best campsites (IMHO) are at the mouth of Moyer Creek, about 5 minutes paddle from the narrows at the middle of the lake and around 2.5 – 3 hours paddle from the boat launch at the south end of the lake. I have base-camped there before and then explored the rest of the lake.

    Alouette Lake

Depending on work schedules and who can come, this could be either 2 nights (Fri, Sat) or just overnight (Sat).

Also thinking this won’t be an official trip, so if you are interested in coming along, post here and then we can take it off-line to sort out the details!

I’m up for doing Mar 16/17. If we go somewhere we are allowed to have a fire that would be cozy! How about Alouette? I have never done anything on that lake and would like to. Or even up to Granite Falls. I’ve been there but not as an out and back kayak trip.

The Mar 30/31 weekend is right after the Film Fest which I’ll be working so won’t have much time to prep that evening.

Let me know what you think!

Hi Allan,   I’m interested in weekend paddles in April. I’m also skiing in March. 🙂   I can sometimes paddle on Mondays and Fridays as well – it depends on my work schedule. I have a wet suit, but not a dry suit. I have been to Thornamby a number of times. There are some unofficial and more hidden camp options in coves along the south end of South Thornamby as well. For small groups only. Other paddle-and-camp destinations sound good too.

On Friday 8 Mar, the weather looks like it will be reasonable. Planned is a trip from Squamish by open power boat to Tantalus Ldg where decking will be put across the 2 logs that we placed last Fall to span the creek. Non-skid wire will go on the treads, too. This will be fairly heavy work with a generator (running most of the time) and hauling materials and tools there. If Friday, doesn’t work, Monday 11 Mar is another option, but it looks more likely to rain then. On either day, we’ll launch early at Squamish – say 8 am and plan to finish by 2 or 3 pm, getting back to Vancouver by about 5 pm. Please let Nick know if you are able to help treasurer2@skabc.org

Deep Cove KayaK is hosting a very cool event for female paddlers on April 27 -28. The instructors are top notch and the sessions look very interesting. I just registered and it looks like there are still a few spots left. Here is the message from Bob at Deep Cove:

This spring we are excited to hosting a Women’s on Water (WOW)  Workshop.  We have arranged for some of North America’s top sea kayak coaches.

    Justine Curgenven
    Kate Hives
    Meaghan Hennessey
    Krista Cawley

The weekend kicks off with a Friday Night Film presentation and talk by Justine Curgenven.  BTW this presentation is open to non-workshop people too.   Even Males.

Here is a link to register: https://www.coastoutdoors.ca/event-race/women-on-water-workshop/

I have a dry suit that keeps me mostly dry. Looking for a new one but it works fine. The weather does look great this weekend! I think I might just head out on the water tomorrow. Maybe even early morning. No winds predicted at all as far as I can see. It is too bad that you are booked!
