    Hello Quirine,

I am going to the symposium but I can only carry one kayak.  I have ferry reservations already (2 pm Friday and 8 pm Sunday) and I am picking up Carole from the overnight parking.  I guess this doesn’t really help to share the ride since you have a kayak but look forward to seeing you there.

Just wondering if anyone from SKABC is going and would like to share the ride.

Destination from Jericho will be determined by weather, water and group dynamics. I am open to relative beginners but you MUST:

-Be able to handle a kayak in turns and moving forward and be able to do a wet exit.

-Have all required safety gear and an appropriate style kayak. (or canoe)

-Come dressed appropriately for weather AND water. I STRONGLY suggest a wet or dry suit as the water is still very cold. If you do not have one then you must carry a full change of warm clothes in a dry bag which will be accessible on the water.  For wearing on the water:

A thin synthetic or fleece layer(s) on the bottom and synthetic layers on top with a wind breaking jacket. Water worthy shoes. A warm hat. A sunhat. Warm gloves. Sunglasses. (we may travel directly INTO the sun) .

Other suggested items: A headlamp and/or other light source. A snack. Water. Camera. Chocolate for the trip leader.

Return time will depend on group but I will aim for 8:30 latest return time. Please allow some leeway for unexpected circumstances.

Sorry folks, I had to cancel since Brian at Metro Vancouver wanted at least 6 participants to make the logistics and paperwork worthwhile. We’ll re-schedule when it isn’t a long weekend with courses running!

    Jonas Lindgren

Circumnavigation of Bowen with early start from Whytecliff Park. Subject to weather and wind. This is a full day trip for intermediate to advanced paddlers.

I will be out of town this time, but will attest that this is a super fun and satisfying trip!

I’m hoping for a few more volunteers for Saturday’s repeat of last month’s weed bash at Widgeon Creek/Marsh. Details and registration on the Trips list. See you there!

Calvin should also have told you that this is a fun day, and so rewarding to see the delight on the kids faces when a seal pops up, and the low tide group are amazed at the sea stars (which are returning!). Pizza and fruit are served to the matches when they return and there is plenty for volunteers too. skabc generously pays for the pizza and the rental of 4 double kayaks for the day. All you need to supply is your own boat and a good attitude.

This has become an annual event and so popular that the organisations always have a wait list.

SKABC will be looking at hosting Big Brothers/ Big Sisters Paddle once again tentatively on Saturday June 15th out at Deep Cove. It will run from 0900 to 1800h.

This is a worthwhile cause. We need volunteer paddlers that can simply accompany the big & little ones who will be paddling doubles. There will be 3 shifts @ 0900h, 1200h, 1500h. You can volunteer for one shift, two shifts or all three shifts.

If you can volunteer, please contact Calvin Sam outreach@skabc.org 604.561.7629

    Thank you

SKABC will be looking at participating at the MEC Paddlefest to be held on Saturday June 15th at Jericho Beach. The Paddlefest will run from 1000h to 1500h.

We are looking for SKABC volunteers that can set up and manage the tent to promote our Club and its activities. We will share our tent with BC Marine Trails who will also provide some volunteers.

If you can volunteer, please contact Calvin Sam outreach@skabc.org 604.561.7629

    Thank you
