Tent platform started at Islet View campsite

Steve B, Brian P, Thom K and Sue J paddled to Islet View in Howe Sound this past Monday. The group marked a site for the next tent platform (see template wood on Steve’s boat as he launches) and did some path clearing. Read more about SKABC's stewardship projects in Howe Sound here. Here are some photos from Monday:

Photos – July club picnic at Locarno

Twenty plus club members gathered at Locarno Beach for a summer picnic. As the evening progressed we had visits at our tent from potential members, games of Cornhole, and a demo of how to paddleboard with a dog. Thanks to everyone who helped make our first in-person social event of 2021 a success! Credit to Sue Johnson and Quirine Schuyff for the photos.

Trailers for Saturday’s Film Night

For Saturday's event at 7:30 pm, SKABC members will be celebrating BC Trails Day with great films, good company and PRIZES thanks to the Outdoor Recreation Council! The films are:

Vitamin Sea:

Cal Major, whose journey the film covers, describes it as follows:

Vitamin Sea follows my 2 month journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats, the length of mainland UK, by Stand Up Paddleboard. The film focusses on the positive solutions to plastic pollution, including the importance of community and connection to nature. The film also delves into the importance of time in nature for our mental health, and follows a journey full of raw emotion, as changeable as the surface of the ocean.

Expect an epic adventure (but without the messy bits cut out), to see the UK coastline in all her stunning, dramatic glory, and to question your own connection to the ocean and how that is driving you.

Family Routes:

Leanne Robinson and Dwayne Wohlgemuth embarked on a summer-long canoe trip across the Northwest Territories with their two sons: four-year-old Emile, and one-year-old Aleksi. Together they face the challenges of living off the land and criticism back home.
