Nimbus Telkwa Sport Kevlar kayak for sale. This is an older boat (built around 2005), but still in good condition. We had it checked out by Steve at Nimbus in December and he said it is good to go.

 

Comes with a fiberglass Werner paddle, spray skirt, pfd, pump, and paddling jacket. Great starter kit for someone getting into kayak touring.

Thanks for the excellent comments Katie. Agreed that this course could be rougher than current course. I think this white water course is good for those who have done current course or similar training and wanted move to next level.

I have a touring kevlar Seaward Legend, it is 21 inches wide with a skeg, 18 ft long and just over 50 pounds as it has a keel skid plate and a mounted deck compass.   Took it out last year for a week on the Broken Islands and it performed well. Our spring event will take place from Thursday, April 10th to Sunday, April 13th. Volunteers are welcome to join for just a day, a night, or the whole weekend! We are privileged, as these events are the only time that camping is allowed on Gerald. Volunteers must be self-sufficient with camping supplies, food, and water. BC Marine Trails arranges for a pack-out toilet for the event.

The Gerald Island Project

I was saddened to read of Thom Kline’s passing just last December, like many I’m sure.

I didn’t know him that well – had only a few conversations at several of our monthly meetings – but from those and also witnessing how he interacted with others, he was an open, friendly, approachable, and active member of our club.

One of the conversations we had was of the imagery he produced and how he painstakingly cared about how the various layered interactions related and complemented one another. I would encourage those interested to visit the images on his website and contemplate the work, effect and affect that they convey.

I am saddened that our club’s personal interaction possibilities have been diminished so that in recent years, I haven’t seen his smile of acknowledgement – but the posted photo of him at one of the Howe Sound sites is a wonderful remembrance.

Hey everyone, there are some good tidal current outflows at 1st narrows, beside Ambleside Park, coming up March 29 and 30 – I’ll probably be out if anyone wants to join me (NOT an organized event).  If weather cooperates (need a westerly wind) there are sometimes big (1-2m) waves to surf.  MUST have experience in strong currents and be able to roll, this is no joke when its big!

I’ve taken the SKABC Currents course as well as the Chilliwack Centre for Excellence 6 session intro to whitewater. I did CCE’s first and then Currents the following year, but looking back I’d have done it in reverse. Currents teaches the techniques in friendlier waters in a sea kayak context.

Coming from CCE, which was super fun but a lot rougher, I was quite nervous going into Currents because I was expecting much rougher waters, but with my 17.5ft sea barge instead of a nimble little whitewater boat. I think it made me more cautious and tense than I needed to be which led me to take fewer risks and gain a little less experience. I think doing Currents first and then CCE would be a better skill progression both mentally and physically.

Highly recommend both courses either way.

I’m looking for my next kayak and on the list is the NDK Classic Plus, the one with the knee bulges. At this point I have not even sat in one and so I wonder if somebody in the Lower Mainland who has one would allow me to try it for size. Not looking to paddle it but only to check the fit. I’ve tried the Classic but it is too tight for my legs. Also have paddled the Surf and I like the fit with its knee bulges.
