This is the first time out since a nasty case of tendinitis in right wrist (2 months ago)- it feels fine now and I’d like to get back to paddling. Me again – just to let members know that

1. the trip/work party is now full but I’ll take a further name or two in case any backups are needed

3. we are going on 6 & 7 Aug and staying overnight on site (or maybe at Bain Ck instead if there are other visitors already camping at Thornbrough).

I’m planning to build a wooden tent platform on the bluff at the Thornbrough Channel site in Howe Sd.

Most of the materials have been stored at the lower part of the site since last Fall.  They will need carrying up the bluff.  I intend to use a rock drill, so I will carry a small generator to the site as well as the usual cordless power tools and hand tools.

The anchors and frame should take about a day to complete.  Staining the frame and adding the decking takes second day.  The decking could maybe be stained that day too, or it might require a shorter third visit.  Alternatively, (and preferred by me) our crew could camp there and finish in 2 days given good weather.

If you are interested, please get in touch with Nick Heath (treasurer2@skabc.org) with some indication of which dates would work for you.  I’m hoping for 1 or 2 crew.  Experience is not required, but there will be lots of carrying up a short but steep hill!

If we end up working within 2 m of each other (unlikely) we’ll put on masks to reduce any potential viral spread. We won’t car pool. Start/end at Porteau Cove ramp.  Transport in my open power boat. Tools provided.

Weather dependent.

Any of 27 – 30 July, 4 – 7 Aug (7 possible days in all but just looking for 2)

Welcome!   Unfortunately the short-notice paddle board has not been very active since COVID.   It was full of paddle opportunities last summer, so there is hope!

I just joined SKABC. Steveston is home, but happy to load my gear up and adventure outwards from here!  Finding my paddling arms again after some time, and not formally certified yet (hoping for courses coming up!) but very comfortable in and around the water. Aquatic Rescue and First aid background. Just learning about routes around here – my last multi day paddles were northern Manitoba lakes many years ago, and more recently Haida Gwaii a couple of years ago… would be happy to day trip on short notice, or plan for a longer one – very happy camper 🙂

Keeping my eyes on this short notice paddle board for others’ trips as well, of course!

Hi! Are these still available? I’m looking for a beginner rec kayak to get my 11 year old son on the water with me! He’s tall, and comfortable in the water, so ready for something bigger than a kids option, but I want to build his confidence before I tuck him into a longer sea kayak!

Nick Heath and I are planning a work party at Islet View this Tuesday, July 21. This time by kayak, not powerboat. Looking for 2-4 volunteers. Building rock steps, levelling tent sites, brush clearing/burning. Meet at Porteau Cove at 7:30am for an 8:00am launch. Experienced paddlers only, must be comfortable in strong conditions, B2/3. Two nautical mile crossing, expect strong crosswinds.
