Today’s paddle was really nice. It’s beautiful up there. @Quirine Doing it on a weekend would be great, but it’d be better to find a day with some clouds so there’s less speed boat traffic.

Very good condition – some minor scratches due to regular use.  Stored in garage.

Extremely stable and efficient kayak with rudder, bulkheads, lots of packing space for touring, and generous leg and foot room. We toured the coast with our kids using this boat and a Nootka Plus (also for sale!) starting when youngest was 3 and always felt safe.  Boat handles extremely well with just one person paddling!

Blue deck and light grey hull. 22.5 feet long, 28 inches wide. Asking $3000, neoprene spray skirts included.

I have the opportunity through BC Marine Trails Coastal Caretaker initiative to paddle to W Ballenas (from Vancouver I) before it is open to  the public. Currently it is owned and managed by the BC Parks Foundation and is expected to become a BC Marine Park in due course.

“Each (CC) volunteer is asked to commit to visiting Ballenas for one or two days between mid-June and the end of August. We ask volunteers to select a week that works best with their schedule and then to choose the best day or days during that week to visit West Ballenas. As one of the privileges of volunteering, Coastal Caretakers for West Ballenas Island may camp on the island overnight while carrying out their duties.”  These duties are the VOICE points described by Karina Younk at last Monday’s meeting. As I understand, there is nothing onerous.

I’m thinking of 2-3 days (1-2 nights) some time between 19 – 25 June, weather-dependent.  One or two companions would be nice. B3 paddling short distance about 3.5 NM, depending on chosen launch site.. Roughish camping.

All, there is still space in the June 11 (Sunday) Jericho paddle.   We plan to launch at Jericho around 9am and to be back at Jericho around noon.

If you want to try a completely different kind of boat, you could try paddling around in my Current Designs Slipstream (not to be confused with the Solstice). Was planning to do the Wednesday evening paddle. It’s a Brit boat, and stability was not mentioned once in the manufacturer’s description, but it’s fun and easy to edge and turn. For day paddles and classes, I’ve found it to be engaging and maneuverable.

You have the GT right? I think the GTS is a bit smaller. My boat right now is quite stable so I’m looking for a bit more maneuverability and edging capacity. I appreciate your thoughts though.

Hello, We have two Solstice GTs and they are excellent boats. Ours have rudders. They are comfortable, have very good volume and are stable. I do not know how one would work for you.

There is one of these for sale in Nanaimo. I would love to be able to paddle one before I commit to traveling there by car to have a look at it, and perhaps buy it. If anyone would be so kind as to let me try it, that would be a great help. Or if you have paddled one and have some thoughts about it, and have an idea of how it might work for me.

I’d love to join one of these days. What would you expect the return time to be? By the time I get my boat back to Jericho and rinsed, then home to shower with my gear….it gets late. I get up very early for work. Also, I have Wednesday eve paddles so can’t do all Wednesdays.

The ones on the calendar say 8:30am on Wednesday. Is that the wrong time?

I am trying to assess the interest in evening paddles on Indian Arm. I currently have 2 posted launching at Strathcona Park at 5.30. This may be too early for some, and no rentals are available. If you are interested, but the time or day or lack of rentals do not suit you, please let me know and we can adjust future paddles.
