Virtual Club Meeting: The Return of Giants – presentation on Humpback Whales

When: January 11, 2021 from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM



Jackie Hildering for the Marine Education and Research Society (MERS) will be providing a presentation on January 11th. MERS is based on NE Vancouver Island with education efforts being coast-wide. www.mersociety.org

In addition to sharing MERS’ research on Humpback feeding strategies and rate of entanglement, Jackie will discuss how the fortunate return of these giants from the brink of extinction makes increased boater awareness essential to reduce the risk of collision and increase knowledge of what to do if entanglement is witnessed. This meeting will start at 7:00 pm through Zoom. You can join through a computer or smart phone starting at 6:45 pm. Online chat and breakout rooms will be available so you can catch up with other club members.

More about Jackie Hildering:
As an educator, cold-water diver and underwater photographer, Jackie is known as “The Marine Detective” with on-camera experience including work with PBS, the BBC and Animal Planet. She has been referenced as the stand-up comic of marine conservation.

Recent recognition includes MERS winning the 2019 Ecostar Environmental Stewardship Award. Jackie is the recipient of the 2019 EcoStar Award for Educational Leadership and the winner of the 2019 Environmental Award from the Canadian Power Squadron.
