SKABC Conservation Volunteers are needed Wednesday June 3, 2026
9 am until 2 pm at Widgeon Creek, to be accessed from Coquitlam BC side.

Help SKABC in partnership with Metro Vancouver Natural Resource Management cut
and bag the invasive Yellow Flag Iris flowers and seed pods.
    Bathrooms are on site.
As a kayaker and outdoor enthusiast why would we want to do that? Per the Invasive
Species Council of BC, Yellow flag iris (Iris pseudacorus), an invasive aquatic plant. It
disrupts water flow and can reduce a marsh’s ability to purify water. This plant alters the
ecosystem along the shoreline and can reduce the concentration of macroinvertebrates
(insects) from 600 per m2 to 6 per m2. This has a rippling effect on the entire food chain
that depends on these insects for survival.
Meet at the new parking lot for Widgeon Creek  9 am at the end of Quarry Road. (note it is not the same place as last time) https://maps.app.goo.gl/ctPUFA5D8R1REzfX8
Then we will be escorted in the cars to the meadow and to the Spit to our launch site (https://maps.app.goo.gl/favHtdJ9gWPi1xgF8)
Metro Vancouver has survived the area of Yellow Flag Iris plants infestations. The bottom left part of the map is the starting/ending point. Widgeon Spit (https://maps.app.goo.gl/favHtdJ9gWPi1xgF8)What to bring:
