    Thanks!

    Yes I used to use a blanket draped over the back of my car but the spoiler doesn’t seem strong enough to hold the weight of my kayak. I could be wrong? I think it would be wise to find a protective system though.

    If you just need to cover your rear spoiler and not a wheeled assist, I use a plastic roll of non-adhesive shelf protector held in place with a magnet that has clips,  I have covered the magnetic part with thin cloth glued on so as not to scratch my car’s surface.

    Con-Tact Premium Non-Adhesive Plastic Shelf/Drawer Liner, Frosted, 18-in x 4-ft 9.99 at Canadain tire

    This stays in place.  Previously I  used a bath mat with a rubber grip but it got moldy left in the car on a long summer trip.

    Thank you. Yes these are the kinds of things I’m thinking of. Now to find the bow and stern line tie down points!

    Thanks for sharing that photo! This looks like what I want to use. I can’t see in the photo. Is it suction cups that hold it in place?

    For stern line, I use the tow bolt that comes with the vehicle. Found in the spare tire compartment. It has thread on one end and an eye on the other. On rear “bumper”
    there is a small hatch cover that can be removed. The bolt is threaded inside the hatch.

    For front I use 2 short loops of webbing that attach to the vehicle under the hood on the edges of the engine compartment on either side. Then I tie the bow line between the 2 webbing loops. These loops are commonly available in kayak/canoe shops. because I live out the valley I go to Western Canoe Kayak.

    I use a roller from Malone and a large foam block

    Another question;

    my new car also doesn’t have the loops for bow and stern lines.  It s a Subaru forester.   Any ideas where and how to tie?

    Yeah I kind of agree Nick. I think they are a silly added feature that likely causes extra repair costs. You used to be able to remove (some of) them pretty easily but it seems newer models you cannot as the brake light is embedded in there. Still, maybe I can check that out.

    My first idea, Quirine, would be take off the silly spoiler – it’s likely just a piece of useless styling/marketing on any vehicle that will not travel at speeds above 250 km/h!
