The Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival (VIMFF) and North Shore Rescue are pleased to invite the public to nominate candidates for the 12th annual Tim Jones Award. Nominate someone who’s made a difference in your community on the VIMFF website. https://vimff.org/tim-jones-award/
The Tim Jones Award is awarded annually to recognize an individual or organization that has made an outstanding contribution to the outdoor community in British Columbia. Previous honorees include trail builders, race organizers, leaders of women’s hiking groups, indigenous women serving as role models for outdoor enthusiasts, dedicated conservationists, and members of search and rescue teams. What unites these recipients, past and present, is their commitment to helping others experience and enjoy nature and the great outdoors.
The award represents Tim’s legacy and serves as an inspiration to selflessly help others. The mission of the award is to educate and share the passion for nature and the love for our mountains and waters.
Criteria
The nominees for this award should meet the following criteria:
1. Active in the British Columbian outdoor community
2. Has made an outstanding contribution in a social, environmental, educational, or public safety capacity
3. Has not received direct remuneration for their volunteer work or performed the services as part of their regular business or professional activities
4. Is an ‘unsung hero’ (received little in the way of public recognition for their accomplishments)
All submissions will be judged by a jury consisting of: Taylor Jones (daughter of late Tim Jones); Mike Danks (North Shore Rescue); and Richard Walton (former mayor of District of North Vancouver). They will select a recipient from the eligible candidates.
A special thanks to Lindsay Jones and Peter Haigh who have been on the jury for the past 10 years!
Anyone can submit their nominee until February 6, 2025.
The winner of the award will be announced during the VIMFF in February 2025.

About the Tim Jones Award:
The Tim Jones Community Achievement Award was established in 2014 to honor the legacy of Tim Jones, a North Shore Search and Rescue leader and paramedic dedicated to helping keep people safe in the North Shore Wilderness areas. The award recognizes individuals and organizations who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and service to public safety and the BC outdoor recreation and sports community.
About Tim Jones:
Tim Jones, a paramedic by profession, spent a quarter of a century leading North Shore Rescue, a volunteer organization that has rescued hundreds of lost and injured persons in the backcountry north of Vancouver’s urban area. A recipient of the Order of British Columbia, an educator and fundraiser, Tim’s energy, enthusiasm and courage pointed out the necessity of careful planning and respect for those engaging in backcountry activities.
