Presentation Description: Ever wonder what causes wind? And how terrain effects it? Ever wonder what speeds strong wind warnings begin and when they get upgraded to gale force? What about the accuracy of weather predictions? Join Environment and Climate Change Canada senior meteorologist Ross Macdonald in a conversation involving all aspects of marine weather and marine weather forecasting for coastal B.C. waters.
Bio of Speaker: Ross Macdonald is an Environment and Climate Change Canada senior meteorologist with 14 years of experience working at the Pacific Storm Prediction Centre in Vancouver. He has developed a deep understanding of west coast weather with over a decade of experience writing coastal B.C. marine forecasts as well as consulting mariners directly on Environment and Climate Change Canada’s One-on-one marine consultation phone line. Ross believes the key to improving forecast service is through public education and communications to users. Outside of work Ross is an outdoors enthusiast; enjoying the very best that B.C. has to offer including kayaking, hiking, and trail running.

Diver, cinematographer, and film editor, John Roney, takes us beneath the Salish Sea, as he shares footage and educational anecdotes about the lesser-known marine life that inhabits this area.
John Roney is an underwater cinematographer and film editor based on Vancouver Island. Passionate about ocean conservation and science communication, John uses film to educate audiences on the diversity of marine life found in the Salish Sea. When heâ€™s not in the water, John works full-time as a video editor with the conservation organization, SeaLegacy, where he collaborates with some of the most renowned photographers, filmmakers, and storytellers working on behalf of our oceans.
