Once again, I’m seeking a volunteer (or 2) to help me at Simson (S Thormanby I) to finish some work we didn’t complete in September, brushing trails.  The difference this time is that I’ve been offered the use of a cabin to stay in at Buccaneer Bay, so the winter camping experience is mitigated.

No firm plan in mind except to do this over 3 days some time soon or by New Year, preferably in a dry spell. Travel either by kayak or small power boat from Cooper’s Green or Brooks Cv. bringing our tools, sleeping bags, warm clothing and food.

Nothing extreme. Fairly flexible arrangement possible. Zero participant cost except for food.

Thank you participants!  The trip was completed as planned (more or less!) and the previously incomplete trail brushing was finished with gusto.  Finding the vandalized signs was, however, unsuccessful, but we don’t even know (we only suspect) that the signs are lying somewhere there in the bushes. No matter, I’ll re-make the ones we lost. Anyone willing to help? It is a bit fiddly, but I’m hoping this time to use a laser etcher/printer for the lettering. If you know of one I could use, pl let me know. I’ll start by asking at my local library and rec centre.

OK – here’s a few changes for the trip which should be posted shortly. Dates 2-6 Jan 2026.

Travel will be by water taxi, paid for by SKABC. Cabin accommodation. 5 limit incl me plus the cabin owner. So far, 3 others have expressed interest and I want to give them preference (because they responded here and therefore made it possible for me to plan the rest of the event) so there might be only 1 place left after that.

Thanks to a generous member it looks like we’ll be making a shortish trip to Simson Park  early in the New Year, using a cabin at Buccaneer Bay for accommodation. There will be a total of 3 or maybe 4 of us, so there is no more room this time. No doubt there will be other trips!
