March club meeting – Janie Wray

Feature guest speaker Janie Wray, CEO and lead researcher of BC Whales, will present on Whale Culture and Acoustics,

First, tune in at 7pm for the third and final instalment of Kayak Communications 101. Bob Salo, Steve Best and Nick Heath will discuss electronic communication devices that could be used in the kayak environment, including:

 Cell phones

 Solar chargers

 Personal Locator Beacons

The feature presentation will follow, and at the end of the meeting there will be time for socializing in breakout rooms.

Bio for Janie Wray
Janie Wray, CEO and lead researcher for BC Whales, has studied the acoustic traditions and culture of whale behaviour for the last 20 years. She is the founder of the North Coast Cetacean Society, BC Whales and the Fin Island Marine Institute and recently became the science director for Orcalab. She is devoted to the protection of whales and their precious habitat needs along the coast of British Columbia.

Feature Presentation
The acoustic tradition and culture of Orca and Humpback Whales along the coast of BC with an emphasis on behavior, cooperative bubble net feeding techniques of humpback whales and the importance of sound throughout the daily lives of whales.
