Join us on Monday March 4th for a special presentation by Wayne Church, a volunteer with the Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue (RCMSAR). Based in Horseshoe Bay at RCMSAR Station 1, he and his team stand ready 24 hours a day to assist people in need and respond to emergencies. Learn about the work Wayne and the nearly 40 men and women who volunteer at Station 1 provide to our community. Wayne will talk about the services they provide, their fast response boats, special equipment and several stories from his time with RCMSAR. A Zoom link is below.

Speaker Bio:
Wayne is one of almost 40 volunteer members of the Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue 1
stationed at Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver. As an active member he puts in almost 2000 hours on call and another 100+ on training per year, over and above running his own construction company.
Wayne’s background includes professional surf lifesaving, military, police, and business management.Growing up on South Africa’s subtropical east coast, his volunteer work started at 14 when he jumped into action to save a teenager from drowning in the aggressive rip current. This led to one of his first jobs as a professional surf lifeguard with SLASA accreditation (his best job ever!)
He and his family immigrated to Vancouver in his early thirties and settled on the North Shore. Whilst working as a business leader, he volunteered as lead for teams such as corporate emergency management, emergency preparedness and emergency succession. Longing for some excitement, Wayne joined the RCMP as an auxiliary constable for 7 years, before taking a break to get his new company off the ground. The urge to volunteer crept in again, and passionate for the sea and ocean, he actively sought recruitment with RCMSAR.
Some of Wayne’s interests include boating, surf-ski paddling, scuba diving and swimming, which dovetail nicely with the work of RCMSAR. If he’s not building something, fixing the boat, or paddling, you might find him behind his drums banging away something that likely only sounds good to him.
