Kayak Cuisine Weekend Trip (C3)

When: June 11, 2016 until June 12, 2016

Tired of instant noodles or pasta for dinner every night of your kayak trip? Frustrated with the high cost/low taste freeze dried packaged meals? Planning your first independent multi day kayak trip? Then this is the trip for you, where we share information on planning, packing and cooking enjoyable, affordable and nutritious meals suitable for multi day kayak trips.

This is a full participation theme trip. For the Saturday evening meal we will provide the ingredients, recipes, advice and assistance. Cooking will be in pairs or groups of three using a variety of recipes and techniques that will utilize ingredients that travel well on longer kayak trips. We will also incorporate some recipes that use seafood typically available on longer trips. Everyone participates in the meal preparation, has an opportunity to observe what the other cooks are doing and to sample the results. We guarantee that no one will go hungry.

Participants supply their own lunches and breakfast and byob of course. There will be a small fee to cover the cost of the food supplied.

Apart from the fun and camaradrie of the Saturday evening this is a very worthwhile kayak trip. On Saturday we typically paddle from Porteau Cove via the Defense Islands and Potlach Creek to the campsite on Gambier Island. On Sunday we head along the Gambier Island shoreline to Brigade Bay before crossing over to Pam Rocks ( aka Seal City ) then north to Christie Islet with it’s thriving population of nesting sea birds. Following lunch on Anvil Island we head up Montagu Channel to Porteau Cove for our take out.

This is the 13th iteration of this popular weekend trip. Note: Strong inflow winds often make crossing Montagu Channel a challenge so this trip is not suitable for beginners. Registration will close on May 31.
