Those of us who spend time on the water may often wonder what nature once was before colonialism and industrialization and imagine what a future, wilder world could be. Join us for an opportunity to hear from bestselling, local author J.B. MacKinnon who will share his vision of the future of nature. A Zoom link is below — public welcome! J.B. MacKinnon, Author, and Adjunct Professor of Journalism, UBC
J.B. MacKinnon is the author of The Once and Future World: Nature As It Was, As It Is, As It Could Be, a national bestseller about rewilding the natural world. The book invites us to remember nature as it was, to reconnect to nature in a meaningful way, and to remake a wilder world everywhere. It is a call for an “age of rewilding,” from planting milkweed for butterflies in our own backyards to restoring animal migration routes that span entire continents.
J.B. is the author or coauthor of five books of nonfiction, including The 100-Mile Diet. An award-winning journalist, his work has appeared in such publications as the New Yorker, National Geographic, and The Atlantic, as well as the Best American Science and Nature Writing anthologies.He is an adjunct professor of journalism at the University of British Columbia, where he teaches feature writing.
