Boat Maintenance Workshop

When: March 3, 2018 from 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM

The format for this workshop will be similar to a maker space where we pay the initial fee ($15 course registration) and have a space to work on our boats with some tools and supplies readily available to get our kayak ready for the upcoming paddling season.  This workshop will be a forum for discussion and collaboration, sharing of information, tips and personal experience, hanging out with others who might want to get some work done on their boat but are hesitant due to lack of experience.  There will be no presentation and no guest speaker, just a few members motivated to repair/improve their kayak.

We have no specialist, kayak maker/repairman but we have people who are handy, have done some work on their own boats previously and willing to lend a hand.  We can definitely help with changing deck lines and bungee – if your current deck lines are bungee or stretchy, please consider changing them to the appropriate deck line as bungee or stretchy deck lines are less than ideal for rescues.

Chantal needs to change her skeg line and she’s done it before so this is something that everyone who is  interested in can gather around and watch. Richard is very handy, others may be as well and can assist with some rudder repairs.

Chantal may attempt to fix some scratches/gauge in her polyethylene (plastic) boat; this is another potential repair that we can benefit from.

If you have any questions or if you have specific repairs in mind, please email them to Chantal, the Course Coordinator so that we may be able to let you know ahead of time if we feel we can be of assistance.  To that end, keep in mind that you may need to bring the supplies required for more specific repairs.

We will have 5mm reflective deck lines on hand at a cost of $2.00/metre and standard bungee at $1.00/metre; this is an additional cost and should be paid cash preferably.

Please consider registering for the Kayak Stands Workshop, especially if you don’t already have an alternate option to work on your boat at home; it’ll be a lot easier on your back!
