I heard that BCPF achieved their fundraising goal.

The Council of Yacht Clubs/Marine Parks Forever Soc are now lobbying for Elworthy I to become a park. This is located in Waddington Ch, Desolation Sd, to the  N of Roscoe Bay. It has good anchorage, but there is nothing spectacular ashore there.

I’m not opposed to funding this land purchase, but so far the Prideaux Haven  area within Desolation Sd. Prov Park has excluded or closed all paddling destination sites to overnight use. Meanwhile hundreds of boaters, often with dogs, make frequent shore visits via tenders, so shore use here is very imbalanced.

I think paddlers could and should contribute to other land acquisition projects for greater impact.

Thanks to donations to the BC Parks Foundation (promoted in our last newsletter) another piece of the BC coast is now protected forever.

Together, donors helped raise an incredible $1.25 million, with another $1.25 million matched by the Wilson 5 Foundation. The funds allowed for the purchase of 100 acres of coastal forest and nearly one kilometre of untouched shoreline in Prideaux Haven.

The property’s marbled murrelet habitat, thriving eelgrass beds, and breathtaking views will now remain intact, helping strengthen conservation connections around Desolation Sound Marine Park.

This is a fantastic idea. Remember we help similar fundraising event to save Ballenas Islands several years ago.
