Metro Vancouver Parks is looking for more volunteers.

Come help remove invasive plant species at Iona Beach Regional Park!

Located where the Fraser River meets the Pacific Ocean, Iona Beach Regional Park is known for its unique sand dune ecosystem. It is home to a rare community of sand dune plants and sits amid the Pacific Flyway – making it important habitat for over 300 species of migrating birds, as well as its year-round inhabitants.

Join us as we continue to remove invasive plants, specifically Scotch broom, in a long-term effort to restore this valuable beach ecosystem!

Where: Iona Beach Regional Park – Meet near the Iona Beach Public Washrooms. https://maps.app.goo.gl/qpDcyB1BYe55r1eK6

What: Invasive plant removal (Scotch broom)

    When: July 17th, 2025

    Time: 12:30-2:30 PM

We will provide you with all the information and tools needed for the work we will be doing. This includes eye protection and gloves, although if people prefer to use their own gloves they are welcome to do so. Please arrive dressed for the weather (rain or shine), in clothing that can get dirty, with appropriate footwear. Please bring water bottles and a snack if you tend to get hungry while working. We will provide light snacks and there is a water fountain nearby for refilling water bottles.

A few things to note about the site:

    •            There is free parking on-site.

    •            There is a hose near the washrooms for washing sand off.

    •            The site is in a public area, be mindful or sharp or hazardous litter.

    •            This site is exposed, sunscreen and hats are recommended if it is a clear day.

    •            There is a washroom at our meeting place. The worksite is adjacent to the washroom building.

    •            There is construction taking place along the entrance road to the park, expect short delays due to traffic control.

Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns leading up to the event.

I will send a follow up email similar to this the week before the event.

    Best regards,

I’d like to sign up but I don’t see it on the trips list as of yet.
