When: September 4, 2026 until September 7, 2026
Join skabc-ers for the September Labour Day long weekend! The camp site has been booked. This is a fun and easy weekend combining relaxing, socializing, and paddling. Good for beginners and more experienced paddlers.
This island is close to Nanaimo and people can roll their kayaks and gear onto the ferry at Horseshoe Bay or drive across and park. People then paddle a short distance, in protected water, to the campsite to set up. Day paddles will be organised by the group. Please be aware of your own capabilitiesand comfort in the conditions of the day. There is a;so opportunity to hike or chill at the campsite. Some people come on Friday morning or afternoon, and others on Saturday. Most leave Monday morning. There is a small ferry to the island for those not wanting to kayak at all. There is also a good concession which sells food and beer!
Saturday we usually hold a potluck which has us feasting on delicious meals! The Dinghy Dock pub is a short paddle away and we usually go on the Sunday eve for dinner.
This is always a really fun weekend! Come see familiar faces or meet new ones!
Cost: $40
Registration is open — we strongly urge you to sign up by July 27 so we know it’s a go and you can get a ferry reservation out of Horseshoe Bay! The fee covers camping for 3 nights and is non-refundable. For those who plan to go through Tsawwassen or walk on with their kayaks at Horseshoe Bay, you can sign up for this event as late as August 28.
