Two-night conservation trip (Saturday to Monday) to Simson Provincial Park on Thormanby Island, Sunshine Coast.
We will travel by kayak (approx. 3 NM) from Coopers Green boat ramp to Farm Bay. We will camp at a pleasant basic site, without facilities. There is a picnic table and bear cache. No fires are permitted. A simple shared latrine can be dug and later backfilled. The team looks forward to fostering camaraderie while contributing to the upkeep and improvement of this beautiful natural area.

BC Ferry reservations are highly recommended for the first sailing of the day, 7:30 a.m. Saturday, September 26, 2026, for Horseshoe Bay to Langdale BC.
This project is funded by a BC Park Enhancement Grant. Ferry cost will be reimbursed for volunteers if the following is submitted via email to the trip leader, Cynthia Kennedy, by October 26, 2026.
• Submission of a photo of BC ferry fare receipt in a large image size
• Completed SKABC expense claim in PDF format to trip leader Cynthia Kennedy. See under SKABC website: Policies, Minutes and Expenses for how to submit a request for payment and form.
Work party activities may include the following:
• Marking walking trail routes, with small reflective trail markers, and clearing the trail’s corridor of overgrown vegetation (brushing), or invasive species
• Adding temporary signage to trails (approx. 10 signs remain)
• Installing trail maps
• A beach clean-up at numerous beaches

Standard trip safety protocols will be adhered to, i.e. Transport Canada safety gear, boat flotation, thermal protection for paddling, group stays together, observing and compliance with signals from the leader or designate. PPE to be worn when working – some provided, sturdy work clothes, gloves, and rain gear are needed. Bring water.
Hand tools will need to be transported to Simson and shared among all the kayakers, ie hammers, signs, loppers, fasteners etc.
Photos will be taken of the volunteers and work done to submit to SKABC social media, the Lower Sunshine Coast Park Ranger for an update of activities, and as a requirement of the Park Enhancement Grant. If this is a concern, please discuss with the trip leader prior to launching, and we will make accommodations.
A review of the forecasted weather conditions will be made Thursday, September 24, 2026, in the p.m. as to go or no go to the Sunshine Coast. This allows time to cancel BC Ferry Reservations with only a $5.00 surcharge.
