Kayla’s presentation will cover how vessel disturbance affects the whales in our waters and how you can help mitigate these pressures by reporting your whale sightings to the Ocean Wise Sightings Network. Learn how to use the Whale Report app, how sightings data is used for conservation research, and finally, gain tips and tricks on spotting more whales from shore!

Bio: Kayla is the Coordinator of the Ocean Wise Sightings Network, previously the B.C. Cetacean Sightings Network. She began working with Ocean Wise’s Whales Initiative four years ago with the Southern Vancouver Island Cetacean Research Initiative. She holds a BSc. From the University of Victoria and is passionate about wildlife conservation. As part of her role within Ocean Wise, she provides regular training and educational programming to mariners, recreational boaters, and other members of the public on topics of whale conservation and the Whale Report app.
