October club meeting via Zoom

When: October 7, 2024 from 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Join guest speaker Nathan Slater as he tells stories from his 140 day trip with Sanesh Iver in 2023 paddling from Victoria, BC to Yakutat, Alaska, covering a distance to 1935 nautical miles (3500km). Their journey led them through remote communities, abandoned industrial towns, natural hot springs, and to the base of North America’s largest tidewater glacier. Also at Monday’s meeting: learn more about BC Marine Trails, the organization supporting this journey with their site information. A Zoom link will be posted closer to the time.

More about the presentation:
Join us for an evening of stories covering the highlights (and some lowlights) from Nathan and Sanesh’s expedition as well as some tips and trips for planning your own sea kayak expedition. Check out the trip blogs for a sneak peek at some of the stories he might tell!

Nathan’s Bio:
Nathan spends most of his time playing in the waves on the West coast of Vancouver Island. He completed a Certificate of Wilderness Leadership in 2015, and has been working in the outdoor industry ever since. in 2019, he became a Level 3 Sea Kayak Guide through the Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of BC and has now embarked on the journey to become a guide trainer. He loves being on the water and specializes in leading longer expeditions in remote stretches of the coast.

Sanesh is currently off exploring a new dimension to his career as an engineer in Zurich, Switzerland so will not be at the event in-person, but you’ll get to hear his take on the key details of the story!
