Rescues and Boat Handling Course (previously Strokes & Rescues)

Location:  Sasamat Lake (White Pine Beach)

This course is highly recommended for Currents Course participants.

In this course you will learn and practice:

  • Techniques for efficient forward paddling
  • Reverse paddling
  • A variety of bracing techniques
  • A variety of steering and maneuvering strokes
  • A variety of towing methods
  • A variety of self-rescue and assisted rescue techniques

Course Format:
Two-day weekend course (be ready to be on the water by 9:00 AM)

Prerequisites:
This course is hands on and participants should have taken a beginners course (preferably) or have some paddling experience.  You must wear paddling clothing that is suitable for immersion (eg. wet or dry suit) and be comfortable performing wet exits.   You must have all required safety equipment and your kayak must have water tight hatches and proper flotation or bulkheads.

Registration: Registration opens 8 am March 31, 2023. Please register below.

Once your registration is confirmed by the course coordinator, you will receive a password to complete your registration. NOTE: payment must be made within 48 hrs of receiving the link.  If payment is not received and there is a waitlist, your spot will be replaced with the next person on the waitlist.

Transportation:  It is each participant’s responsibility to get themselves to the course location.  The course coordinator will email the group so that all participants have the email addresses of the others attending the course.  This will enable each of you to reach out to the group or an individual to organize carpooling.  Carpooling is a great way to be kind to the environment, minimize parking issues at popular sites, and to minimize the cost of gas and ferries where applicable.
