When: May 5, 2025 from 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM
In July 2024, Philip Kubik and fellow SKABC member Ted Lam paddled from Port Hardy around Cape Scott and through Quatsino Sound to Coal Harbour. Philip will show photographs from this trip and a 2021 trip guided by SKILS which covered the same route as far as San Josef Bay. We hope you’ll join us for what promises to be an informative presentation! Public welcome.

Bio: Philip’s first kayaking experience was a trip to the Broken Group in 1986, to which he was invited by some mountaineering friends. After the trip, Philip decided that he liked kayaking enough to do more (but not as much as mountaineering and ski mountaineering) but thought to it would be prudent to learn how to go kayaking safely. Consequently, he took a one week combined whitewater & sea kayaking course, during which he decided he preferred sea kayaking to whitewater kayaking. Subsequently, he joined SKABC, taking courses and participating in trips. After a few years, children were born and Philip took a 20 year hiatus from kayaking. In 2011, after his children had grown up and knee damage prevented him from skiing and restricted his hiking, Philip was reborn as a kayaker. He rejoined SKABC, took more sea kayaking courses from SKABC and Paddle Canada, and participated in SKABC and PIKA trips. In 2012, Philip began leading SKABC trips and a few years later, instructing SKABC courses, both of which he continues to do. Since 2020, Philip has served as Site Steward for the Bain Creek Recreation Site in Howe Sound. From 2020-2024, Philip served as Secretary on the SKABC Executive.
